Rowling Theme Gallery Post Format
-
In the Rowling theme, the gallery post format shows the photos as a slideshow, as stated in the theme description, but there seems to be no way to view the gallery in a full-screen mode, such as in the lightbox. Is there a way around it? I would certainly like to view a photo gallery full screen, not just as a slideshow. Thank you for any suggestions!

There isn’t a way to open a slideshow in an image carousel. If you don’t want the images appearing in a slideshow then you could use the Standard post format instead. That would allow the gallery to open in a carousel.

I see! Thank you for your explanation. I thought it so unusual that I imagined it must be a bug rather than a theme feature.

I thought of another idea…. If you wanted the slideshow but also a carousel, you could add a link to the carousel manually at the bottom of the post.
For example, if you flip to Text view in the editor, let’s say your gallery code looks like this:
[gallery type="rectangular" ids="2483,2490,2644"]You could add a link like this at the bottom of the post to open the gallery in a carousel:
<a href="https://YOURSITE/2016/04/25/my-page/#jp-carousel-2483">View gallery in carousel</a>Change the post URL to your own, and change the number at the end to the first number in your gallery.

Sounds excellent! That’s exactly the kind of fix I was looking for.
I followed your instructions but when I click the link to the carousel, the web address changes but no carousel appears. Did I make a mistake in the code?
[gallery type="rectangular" size="full" ids="8892,8893,8894,8895"] <a href="https://maraeastern.com/2016/04/22/iphriday-golden-hour/#jp-carousel-8892">View gallery in carousel.</a>Here is the post I’m trying to edit. I tried in different browsers without effect.

Hmm, you’re right. Let me check why that’s not working the same way it did on my test site and get back to you.

I think there must have been a flaw in my testing as it no longer works the moment the post format is set to Gallery. Sorry about that.
I guess my first suggestion stands – you’d need to use the Standard post format.

Never mind then. Thank you for trying to work it out with me! At least now I know that it’s a legitimate theme feature and not something I’m doing wrong.
