RSS 1 widget only displays ONE latest entry and not 5 like I want it to
-
Using the RSS 1 widget in the sidebar, I set it as to display the 5 latest posts of my blog, however, it only displays THE latest post instead of the 5 latest ones. How can I fix this? It worked fine on my test blog, however.

The place for setting this up is here -> Options -> Reading
Scroll down to:
Syndication Feeds
Show the most recent:___posts
For each article, show:Full text
SummaryNote: If you use the <!–more–> feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.
Insert the number in the bold lettered field (see above) and click “Update Options”
Happy blogging!

It might be that it only displays the five posted after you configure it? That’s the only thing I can think of, unless you didn’t title the other entries.
-
BTW I see these 5 right now.
* ”Are men really necessary? Good question”
* Feministing.com, Approving of Violence Against Men
* Male Nurses Face Discrimination
* The Lie of the Gender Wage Gap
* Bill Maher on Feminism -
Timethief: I tried this. It did not work.
Raincoster: I tested it on my test blog and it still worked fine even though I had posts prior to configuration. -
Timethief: That’s because I’m using the standard sidebar, not the RSS 1 widget. I will update it so you can see for yourself.
-
Hmm edit not working? Anyway, I just updated the sidebar and used a custom sidebar instead of the standard one. As you can see, using the RSS1 widget only displays ONE post, and not 5 like I told it to when customizing the widget. It’s weird since it worked fine on my test blog…

Short of editing the widget options, why not use the “latest posts” widget if you are only looking at posts from your own blog?
As well, TT is correct that there is only 1 post showing in your RSS feed, so the widget might be setup correctly to show 5 posts, but since there is only 1 in the actual RSS feed, it shows one.
This would require your blog Admin => Options => Reading and change the number of posts to show in the RSS feed to 5 or 10.

trent: I want my readers to be able to subscribe to my blog via RSS feeds. The ”Recent Posts” widget does not offer RSS.
I just did change the # of posts to 5 and as you can see, there is still only one post showing.
(Btw, I did edit the widget options to display 5 posts.)

If you put the Meta widget in your sidebar and then set the number the way I described above your readers will be able to get the Recent Posts (AKA entries) and the Recent Comments. Click on them feeds at the bottom of my sidebar in my Meta widget and you will see what I mean.

All the RSS widget does though is link to the following:
http://iblognews.wordpress.com/feed/
That is where they can subscribe to your feed. I might just create a text widget that says “subscribe to my blog” and reference that URL if you want, but really it should be working the way you want either way (including the way you do want it).
That being said, I cleared my cache and went back to the URL I reference above for your feed. It is still showing 1 entry in that feed. I am wondering if it is taking the less of the number you tell it to show and the number you show on the main page maybe? Try increasing the number of entries to show on the main page and see if that helps (if only temporary).

Timethief: thanks for the help. :) Anyway, I don’t like the meta widget as it’s a waste of space.
Look at my test blog here: http://mytestblog99.wordpress.com
See? THAT’S how I want my sidebar to be.Trent: Thanks for the help too. I tried changing the # of posts displayed on the main page, but it does not appear to do anything. I realize RSS feeds is somewhat useless, but it seems more people than I thought do use it a lot.

@dnxx1
Hi again,
I’m not a keener on the Meta widget either. It’s useful in two ways. You can place it in your sidebar temporarily and find out what’s going on with your feeds. And, if you ever get into an “I can’t log-in” situation like raincoaster and I have been in you can use it to log-in. -

I left a test comment on your most recent post when I saw the Meta widget in the sidebar. I left it so we could ascertain if the comment would appear on the rss feed for comments or not. No sooner had I left it than you pulled the Meta widget out. As I have nothing more to offer ti this thread I’m off to eat lunch. Best wishes for a happy outcome. :)
