rss doens’t work

rss feeds do not work! links don’t open into the feed, but to a long lines of code

Hi there,
I’m not sure I understand.
What site/feed are you speaking about, and what exactly are you trying to do?
An RSS feed is just a bunch of code, and that’s what you’ll see if you click on the link for an RSS feed (provided you’re using a browser that can even open RSS feeds). This is because RSS feeds are not meant to be read by humans. They’re made for computer programs, especially RSS readers like the WordPress.com Reader or https://feedly.com/

Hi, kokkieh,
My understanding is readers are to click on the RSS button to subscribe to my blog. What should they do with the stream of code that opens up?
Thanks

Hi there,
They need to copy the address of the feed to the RSS reader of their choice (e.g. https://creakypavillion.wordpress.com/feed/). If they have an RSS reader installed on their computer clicking on that link will add your site’s feed to their reading app.
You can read more about how RSS feeds work here:

Just to clarify too, users who have an RSS feed reader installed could see an option to subscribe there if they clicked your RSS link.
For those who don’t have that, there are other subscription options available:
