RSS feed

    @amightywp and timethief

    Today I received another apology from Bloglovin as follows:

    “I completely agree with you and wish we could fix it right away. As this issue has developed it has become complex from a technological perspective. This issue is currently being tested and worked on by an assigned team. We really want to fix it too, so we are working hard to figure out both an efficient and permanent solution. Stick with us and we will see this through!”

    This is still useless to me so with all the other options I think I’ll opt out of this one; maybe they won;t be around if this keeps up anyway

    Egads! A permanent solution for drawing from a valid RSS Feed URL requires a technological team? I’d best move along lest I say something else. LOL :D

  • Unknown's avatar

    yes, my feelings exactly.
    Sounds like the IT guys at my old job whose answer to everything was
    “did you reboot your computer?”

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh well, we need some comic relief in every day, right? ;)

    Hi
    Sorry to bring this up again but the geniuses at Bloglovin never fixed my issue which you guys all deemed was their issue, not mine (or WP). Today I received this email; Can anyone please give another opinion?

    In order to get your images on Bloglovin, your RSS-feed needs to contain images. You currently do not have any images in your RSS-feed, which is why Bloglovin is not displaying them. In this case, you will have to change the settings of your RSS-feed and not the settings on Bloglovin.

    If you are unsure of how to do this you can contact the blog portal that is hosting your blog. Also, the images needs to be saved in .jpg format. Good luck :)
    ==========================================================

    I tried changing the thumbnail images to be larger and that did nothing. Before I delete my account I’d like to give this one more shot if someone can advise or help

    Thanks

    HOGWASH! The media files (images) are in the feed http://experimentalexpats.com/feed/

    The RSS feed is valid. I already checked that before I responded to you.

    P.S. Note that your images are .jpg files.

    Hi
    Yes I figured you were correct. Obviously that company is run by idiots and I will not be able to utilize them in any meaningful way. Fortunately, my blog is starting to show life and I get a lot of content and writing compliments so they are dead to me anyway.

    Sadly I’m between a rock and hard place here; since you say there’s nothing wrong ad they either don’t care or are too stupid or lazy to help I get screwed.

    oh well; thanks for responding again

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi again
    they just responded to me with this after I told them what you said:
    Help; I feel like I’m a bouncing ball
    =====================================================

    We are having some issues with images on blogs hosted with WordPress, this is the issue my colleague was referring to. As she said it is quite extensive. We are working on it, but it will take time before it can be resolved.

    However, this is not what seems to be the problem for your specific blog. The problem in this case is that your RSS does not contain any images. The RSS works fine with the posts, it just doesn’t include images. I have attached a screenshot to clarify.

    This is the RSS we have for your blog: http://experimentalexpats.com/feed/
    If you have another one that does contain images, please let me know and I can change it in our system.

    I am sorry that you have gotten stuck in the middle of two companies. I understand it can be frustrating, but I assure you that I am doing everything I can to help and be clear. I am sorry if this is causing you inconvenience.

    Best regards,
    Linda Kristoffersson, Bloglovin’

    I know this is going to be a really frustrating response, but I honestly don’t know what they could be talking about. I see several images in your feed. You can confirm that by heading to the link they gave and searching for “.jpg”.

    There’s actually quite a lot of media content in your feed. And I just tested by pulling up your RSS feed in feedly, they all seem to be appearing correctly:

    I’m really not even sure what to have you ask or tell them.

    Could you upload the screenshot they gave you to your Media Library so I can see what they’re talking about?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
    They are so clueless I don’t even know what to say. Here is the screenshot they sent me:

    I’ll tell them what you said and go form there I guess

    Thanks

    Unfortunately, that screenshot isn’t very informative.

    Let me know what they say and I can try to help you get this sorted out.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Obviously they are either very stupid, highly unprofessional or about to go under. Pathetic. I will post her response if she bothers to answer
    Thanks again

    @shawnajroberts
    Aside: Here’s my guess on the outcome. My call is that in the final analysis the outfit in question is not going to be happy with summary RSS Feeds. I surmise that they want full post content and I guesstimate there are enough newbies and those desperate for traffic out there who will give them what they want.

    Not me – not ever! No freaking way will I ever consent to allowing my full post content to be republished on any site other than my own site. It pisses me that mobile users can read my full posts in the Reader as it is.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @timethie
    I’m with you and support your argument fully.I hope you don’t view me as some stupid newbie desperate for readers. I’d rather have 100 followers that actually read and enjoy my stories than 5,000 that obviously have no time to read the hundreds of blogs they claim to follow

    I will blow off Bloglovin as soon as it’s clear they won’t give in or help and will not even bother blogging about the experience because I’d rather spend my time on constructive content

  • Unknown's avatar

    @rodiy2k
    No way! I don’t have a negative view of you at all.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m glad
    I guess our friends will not bother responding to me anymore. Ridiculous and unfair to me

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello both,

    Very good read! I too am having the same exact issue with @rodiy2k and am also a newbie to blogging so thanks for sharing this! I have my blog on WP Admin (WP org). I posted on that forum and no replies.

    @timethief, your input is very insightful. And your point is a valid one and one I will follow “No freaking way will I ever consent to allowing my full post content to be republished on any site other than my own site. “

    I think I will blow off bloglovin as well. I can’t seem to get any true support and their “beat around the bush” or “regurgitate useless support answers” are beyond frustrating. I tell them the issues I am having and all points I have done to resolve this and they say it’s the head, then they say it’s the tail, then they say it’s an orange ?????????

  • Unknown's avatar

    @dkurlygurl
    Thanks for sharing this; makes me think I’m not the only sucker with this issue; also makes me think Bloglovin trolls around looking for newbie bloggers and pulls this crap that timethief describes in some lame attempt to steal content or who knows what else

    Strange to me that they have been able get as big as they are with zero useless support; sadly the only way anything ever changes is when enough people convince the blogosphere that they are not worth it and when companies lose business, they start listening. I don’t see that happening with them; if you do random searches you’ll see only a few out of every blog selected for this ridiculous scam (it is a scam to me since we all know it’s not a WP issue)

    Anyway I give up on them; was going to campaign against them but it’s not worth my time and effort so I’ll just move forward

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yea don’t bother. Use your time and energy on more positive things.

    BTW, nice blog :). I just wrote about expat living last week. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think http://www.lasalitacafe.com/basic-tips-living-abroad/ I have a friend living in Malaysia, he loves it, he’s South Afrikan :)
