RSS feed is not “cut” when using the “more” tag

Hi everyone ! Sorry but something curious happens actually… I just noticed that the RSS feed is not “cut” even when using the “more” tag. And it’s the same when I select the “summarize” function in the Options menu… A few weeks ago, things were OK. I use feedburner but it seems the problem comes from WordPress… Any comment or solution ? Thanks !

chrisblood, this problem, also referred to by some as a “fix”, has been ongoing for a week or 2 now. WordPress has stopped allowing the more tag function on feeds and instead will publish your post in full on RSS feeds, including feedburner.
I cannot stress what a huge inconvenience this has been for us. The optional excerpt fuction has been offered as a solution, where you can put pictures and decide what part of your text you wish to show on your feed, but outside of that, it looks like they have no intentions of bringing back more tag usage on the feeds, or even offering it as an option.
It still works on your blog, but if you want it on the feeds, well, try the aforementioned suggestion.
It is good to hear that another blogger finds this as utterly frustrating as we do.
    Best of luck.

Thank U bonnieclyde for all these explanations ! Anyway, I feel really frustrated about this WordPress decision… Well now, I think I’ve to use the feedburner integrated summarize function instead. It’s not the best issue, ’cause pictures won’t be included in the feed content… Even if there’s still an inconvenience, it seems to be the only way out ! Big thanks again ! Best reguards !

    Here is the situation:

The ‘more’ tag did not split feeds originally. Regardless if you used it or not, full feeds were delivered. When that more tag was changed so it did split feeds this was not as welcome as was thought. Over some time it was obvious that people wanted full feeds and the more tag. So the behaviour of the more tag was changed back to how it first was.

If you prefer your feed to not have the full article, then in Options > Reading change to Partial feeds. This option has always been there.

Does ‘partial feeds’ act as a summarize function or it will post everything before the more tag?

  • Unknown's avatar

Partial feeds show the first 50 words of the post in the feed.

Hey Mark – I saw that the FAQ had been updated to reflect the change (thanks, BTW) but I just noticed that the Options->Reading page still has the warning in it.

    that’s really bad!!!
i don’t like the “partial feeds” behavior!
can you add an option to let the user choose it?
i would like to have the previous behavior back!!!

    thinking about it:
most people reach blogs article by
using a search engine (like google): and they reach directly the full article
    or
    by feed reader

only a smaller parts open the homepage and read it…

so.. if the feed show the full article why should i use the more tag??? it isn’t useful anymore!!
Plus.. people using the feed are less motivated on reading/writing comments that are one of the main characteristics of a blog!

people who complain that they want to see all the article in the feed shouldn’t use the more tag at all
and now that this is the new behavior i don’t think i’ll use it anymore.. it does not make any sense
