RSS feed issue
-
Hello,
I am trying to put an RSS feed button on the top of my sidebar. I have read the information in the Presentation/Widgets section, typed the info into the main portion of the box that appears and it is not working. I don’t know if I need to take the quotation marks out. I tried it with and without. I don’t know if I see the symbols >< if there needs to be information between the symbols and, if so, what that information should be. I read the other emails regarding this and that didn’t help. Based on one of the forum answers, this is the last thing I typed into the box:<img src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/j28.png alt”>
Thank you for your help.

Actually, this is what I typed (without the asterisks):
<*a href=*”http://eclecticheretic.wordpress.com/feed/”*><*img src*=*”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/j28.png alt”*><*/a>

Try this FAQ which explains the process pretty well: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/

Thanks. That is the first place I looked. I followed the directions there but to no avail.

Try the below.
<a href="http://eclecticheretic.wordpress.com/feed/"><img src="http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/j28.png alt"" title""/></a> -
Thanks.
I assume that I should be typing that into the main portion of the box that appears when I click on the text icon in my sidebar (when I am in the Presentation/widgets portion of my dashboard). The image doesn’t appear on my page and when clicked on, there is a listing of actions. -
Sorry, forgot a space. I tested the below in my test blog and it works.
<a href="http://eclecticheretic.wordpress.com/feed"><img src="http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/j28.png" /></a> -
@eclecticheretic
When you click on the blue and white icon on a text widget it opens.
You see two places to enter text into.
The top one is for a title ONLY and it’s optional. You do not have to use it. If you do use it then all you can enter into the title field is text and not “code”.
The space below the title field it is for the code.
You simply copy and paste it in.
Then you click the X on the top right hand corner of the text widget to close it.
Lastly, you click “Save changes” and then view the front of your blog.
(It works I tried it. ) -

Well, O.K. then. It seems to be working now. How mysterious.
Thanks for all of the patient help!

You’re welcome and sorry I lead you on a goose chase for a bit. Happy blogging.

Okay you guys, I have worked on this rss feed for 2 hours, although the feeds seems to appear on my blog, it has all the codes on my site… there are others that show up with links I’ve placed on the blog. Can I take the codes off my blog and still get the effects I need?

What codes are you talking about? If you want to display the button, you need to have the code in a widget or you need a theme that automatically displays the button.
-
You have to put the code into the post in code view. Click on the tab next to visual in the post editor (labeled “code”), insert the code where you want it and then you can switch back to visual view if you need to edit or add more text. If you put the code in while the visual editor is active, it will not know that it is code.
