RSS Feed not validating

  • Unknown's avatar

My RSS feed for my podcast is: http://jahworksradio.com/category/podcasts/feed/.
When I try to validate it, I get the following message: This feed does not validate. line 70, column 0: url must be a full URL

I used an mp3 file link from archive.org this week just like I always do, but this time there seems to be a problem.
I’ve tried everything I know to fix this problem. Can anyone help me find a solution to this problem?

    Thank you,
    Dave

It’s best to subscribe and wait for an email notification. Staff will work through all threads tagged for their attention as would be expected (first posted – first served) ie. from those threads with the earliest datestamps and timestamps to threads with the most recent timestamps and timestamps.

Have you been blogging / podcasting for long?

If not, if I might make a suggestion…..

Go to WordPress.org where you can use the PowerPress plugin to podcast. I’ve learned after 2 months of frustration that WordPress.com is not the best place for your podcast feed. You do not have access to change the feed, it can be difficult for iTunes to accept your artwork (no artwork = never in the new & noteworthy section)…..

Just wanted to offer my opinion after all the frustration I’ve gone through. This is a wonderful community for blogging, just not for podcasting. Perhaps though you’re tech savvy, whereas I’m a noob.

Either way best of luck to you and the upcoming podcast.

Yes, I’ve been podcasting for over 3 years, with minimal to no problems. I plan on continuing to use wordpress.com (as long as I can get this issue solved). Thank you for your response, though.

    Timethief,
I still haven’t heard anything from WordPress Staff. Do I need to contact them directly?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    @Dave
No you have to wait. See here and know this is only a tiny part of the support request backlog Staff are coping with.

  • Hi Dave – Archive.org can be used to host podcast audio files but it uses redirects on the file paths it uses, which can cause validation problems. You can read more about this here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Podcasting#Archive.org_issues

There’s a possible solution at that link, but if that doesn’t work for you, I recommend uploading your .mp3 files directly to your blog itself rather than going through archive.org. To do that, you will need the 10GB space upgrade, which is $20.00 per year:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

You can purchase it through your blog’s Store.

Thanks for your response. I believe the link you sent is regarding wordpress.org, not wordpress.com. I’ve been podcasting with archive.org for over 3 years and never had a validation problem until now. I know there are others that say the same thing. WordPress.org has issues with archive.org, but wordpress.com does not, as far as I understand. Is there any other possible solution to this problem? Maybe something I can change in the text area of my posts? The 10 GB space upgrade wouldn’t work for me, since I have much more than that in total from all of my podcasts.
    Thank you again for helping,
    Dave

  • Hi Dave – That link is for WordPress.org, but the same thing is true for WordPress.com, because this is an issue with archive.org itself. I understand that you didn’t have problems before, but unfortunately, the best thing (if the solution given in the link doesn’t work) is to upload your media files directly. You can purchase as much space as you need to store them.

The other thing you might try is removing any https links to archive.org, and making sure they’re all http links (some of yours are one, some the other). I don’t know that that’s causing your current problem, but it’s worth a shot.

    Hi Eurello,
The solution given previously doesn’t work for wordpress.com because (as far as I know) you cannot add custom fields in wordpress.com blogs, only wordpress.org.
I’ll try your other suggestion and see if that helps.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Dave

  • Hi there – You’re correct, I’m sorry. I read that too quickly. I hope the other option works for you!

    Eurello,
Thank you so much! Your advice about the https problem solved the problem!
I changed all of these links to http and now they all play and download perfectly on iTunes. I have to say I’m pretty impressed that you caught that small detail.
    Great job!
    Thanks again,
    Dave

  • Hi Dave – Perfect! I’m so glad that worked! And thanks for writing back and letting us know; this way other users can see what worked for you. :)
