RSS Feed updates with every post update

I did some major updating today and every post I updated, even ones published in 2005, got picked up again by the RSS feed. It’s the exact opposite problem this guy is having – https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-force-an-update-to-rss

I posted this question a couple of years ago when I noticed the exact same problem. I don’t want my subscribers to get a new update in their reader every time I update a post (because we all know it happens, you push “publish” and then notice a huge spelling issue or something).

In small words – I update old posts, old posts show up again in RSS feed. This should not be happening.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. If you are referring to your new self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog, you are in the wrong forum. Please ask your question on http://wordpress.org/support

You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum and our answers will not apply to your situation. Thanks and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

If I were referring to my .ORG blogs I would have posted there. I am NOT. I am referring to my .COM blogs. Which is why I have posted the question here. I have NEVER had this problem with my .ORG blogs, ONLY with my .COM blogs.

I hope I find a solution soon too. It’s very annoying to spam subscribers like that.

Give us the actual blog URLs involved, starting with http. Staff have said this does NOT happen, so please give us more information.

I understood from reading the “read this before you post” entry that my blog would be linked to from my name. Which it is.

You mean it’s just the one blog? I thought you were talking about more than one.

Multiple posts. Single blog. My other wordpress.COM blogs are results of past projects at work and not active.

Here is the feed coming out of your wordpress.COM blog: http://gigglesreads.wordpress.com/feed/ . From what I can see, there are no duplicates and the posts shown match in order the posts on http://gigglesreads.wordpress.com/ .

I know that’s what you might be seeing, but that’s wrong. Which is probably why nobody thinks it’s an issue. There were 64 posts that showed up between 10:42 and 10:57am in Google Reader this morning for anyone subscribed to the blog (that’s not all the ones I updated, but it’s enough to count as spamming people’s readers). Posts from July 2003 clear through August 2008. Here’s a screen shot of my Google Reader. Posts are sorted from newest to oldest.

I’ve seen this with Google reader before, which is why I never use it. Why it does that I don’t know. Perhaps take a look around over at Google reader help or forums and see if anyone has posted about this issue. Like I said, this has always been an issue with Google reader as long as I can remember.

And yet it never happens with any other feed I’m subscribed to. Which makes me think it’s more on the WordPress side than the Google side. If it were on the Google side then it would happen with other blogs.

No, it is on the Google side. Here are some links. I only went back as far as 2007 and I’m sorry I couldn’t include the http:// at the front of the links, but the spam filter here would have thrown me in the dungeon.

Here is one thread google reader help with people complaining about it back in 2007.

And here is one from 2010.

And here is the imfamous Scoble complaining of this back in 2007.

I’m having a similar problem with my blog located at http://outpost42.wordpress.com/. I neglected the blog for a while, then returned to posting. However, the RSS would not pick up the new posts only all my old one. So I deleted ALL my old posts. The only thing on the blog are my three posts from Apr 15/16, 2011. The funny thing is, the RSS feed still shows ALL the old deleted posts and none of the new one.
