RSS Feed Widget – Big problem with WordPress

    Hi,

I wanted to use the third party RSS Feed widgets to display on my blog. It makes it easy to show news & updates from other blogs and website eg. Mashable, CNN etc. right on my blog. Unfortunately its not working for some reason? Can someone please tell me why is that?

http://www.surfing-waves.com/feed.htm this is the widget that I was trying to use. If it is the compatibility issue with WordPress for supporting Javascript & flash then this is a big big problem for bloggers. Displaying RSS widget is an essential part of blogging.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are referring to the blog linked to your username then do note that I have blogged for 6 years and have never once seen an RSS feed URL that ended with an htm extension. You need to enter the correct feed URL into the RSS widgets.

I think you are mistaken. The URL that I have in my post (i.e http://www.surfing-waves.com/feed.htm) is not my blog Feed. It is the website where I am creating the RSS widget. It creates a code and then I can use it on my personal blog or website.

The RSS widget provided by WordPress can only be used under side bar or footer or top navigation, it cannot be used in the blog post or the body of a page. But with third party widget I can use the code anywhere to display it. I hope I explain it to you.

WordPress.com is a blogging platform and not an aggregation platform. Blogs being free hosted by WordPress.com are original content blogs. You are totally and utterly mistaken if you think that WordPress.com did not make the deliberate decision to allow widgets, including RSS widgets to only be operational in sidebars and footers. They are refusing to provide the most favored tool that of sploggers and spammers. There are not tools for auto-filling posts and pages with content sucked u by RSS feeds here. Sorry.

Timethief, does that apply to RSS feeds for other WordPress blogs, too or just external sites? I was hoping to find a way to link my WordPress blogs so that when I post on the one, it will automatically show the post on a page in the other.

@faizzsheikh, it is highly likely the code that you are going to get when you are done will not work here at wordpress.COM since it is likely some sort of script (javascript, PHP, etc.). Those are not allowed here for security reasons.

    Add Code to Your Site

Also, having a bunch of pages or posts with feeds in them could get you “unwanted” attention from staff.

I’m sorry but that’s not possible to use RSS widgets to autofill content on on pages or posts. We can only use RSS widgets in sidebars. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/
