RSS for protected blog

My blog is a protected blog (only specific users may view it). I still see the RSS links near the blog, but apparently they’re only there to taunt me? :-) If I use IE to subscribe to the blog, IE complains that RSS with DTDs are not supported. If I use Outlook to subscribe, Outlook gives a vague error that the RSS link is invalid.

What’s the recommended way for approved members of a protected blog to keep themselves updated on the blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To check the blog daily. As far as I know there’s no workaround for that.

  • Protected blogs don’t have feeds because there’s no widely supported way to do secure feeds.

Thanks for the replies. A quick follow up question…

If I were to make my blog public, but not searchable by web crawlers, is it possible someone could accidentally stumble onto the blog? For example, will WordPress link to my blog via keywords or a WordPress-site-search, or some other mechanism? So long as the only readers are the folks I give out the URL to, that would be fine. And if someone tries to “guess” my URL and wins, that’s unlikely enough that I’m ok with it. I just don’t want any mechanisms to help them find it.

Yes, I believe it is. For one thing, others could start to link to you and what usually happens is, a friend will post you to Facebook, going “Hey, check out Zuzu’s new blog” or whatever. If you don’t tell ANYONE it’s your blog, though, it reduces the risk.

Thanks for the warning, raincoaster. :-) Can anyone verify whether WordPress itself might link to a blog marked as public, but not searchable by web crawlers? I’m wondering about the keywords feature on WordPress, or a WordPress-site-search, or some other WordPress feature I might not know about.
