RSS Links Widget problem

I’ve tried to add the RSS Links Widget to my blog. But when I click on it from my blog site to test it out, it just goes to a screen full of junk text so obviously something is wrong. As you surely know the widget doesn’t have much it requests of you by way of documentation; it should be pretty automatic but it is not working. Any suggestions are appreciated. In particular, on some blogs when you click the RSS link it brings up a page that allows you to subscribe in a reader which I find really nice, as a secondary question any explanation of how to do that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have a similar problem. When I click the RSS button, I get the error message “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.” followed by lots of HTML text.
Several of my blog readers had complained about this. But until I tried it today, I thought they were Spam messages!

No, that’s because they’re using Chrome and Chrome does not read RSS feeds. They have to use something like Google Reader to read it.

Because Google invented Chrome, and Google has a vested interest in forcing people to use Google Reader.

Fair enough. So if I don’t want to change my browser and keep using Chrome, how do I get Google Reader to access RSS on a WordPress blog?

Ah ha – I figured it out. I have to open GReader and enter the URL in the Subscribe box. Many thanks, Raincoaster. You’ve been a great help. I will now inform my readers who were complaining. ;-)

Where did you find this widget? It looks like something that might work for me, but I can’t find the link to get the widget. Lots of how-to’s that start with assuming you already have the widget!

If you are using a Chrome browser then raincoaster has made you aware that it does not have a built-in feedreader. http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2010/06/on-google-chromes-lack-of-native.html Add the new WordPress.com extension for Chrome and as soon as you get a new follower or a new like on one of your posts, a notification will appear in your browser: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/chrome-extension/

@timethief. Yes, I have found that. But WHERE is the Widget? How do I find it? There’s nothing there other than how to use it. It’s not on my list of plugins or widgets. I’m using Twenty-Eleven. This seems to be the perfect widget, but it’s nowhere to be found.

I just clicked your username and discovered you aren’t referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog, so the in-house WordPress.com widgets are not avaliable in your WordPress.org install. This forum is only for those with free hosted WordPress.com blogs. We have different software and a different version of that theme. The correct support forum for that site is here http://wordpress.org/support/
