RSS widget truncates feed link?
-
I am trying to incorporate an RSS feed of daily Bible readings into my sidebar. The widget appears to work well — except that the “options” configuring the feed URL seem to be truncated in the sidebar links generated.
The feed URL is:
http://www.edginet.org/mcheyne/rss_feed.php?type=atom_0.3&tz=0&cal=classic&bible=local&conf=noWhen I click on the wee orange RSS logo and follow that up, the links are correctly configured. However, the generated sidebar links cut off everything after the first ampersand. I have tried Atom 0.3, RSS 0.91 and 2.0 … I have tried using entities for the ampersand, but they are converted back to simple ampersands after the save.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Normally providing a link so that we can see this occuring would be helpful. ;)
Worked for me fine:
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?version=31&language=en&search=Deuteronomy+5
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?version=31&language=en&search=Psalms+88
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?version=31&language=en&search=Isaiah+33
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?version=31&language=en&search=Revelation+3
http://www.edginet.org/mcheyne/rss.phpNot sure why that last one is in there though.
edit: Found your blog and don’t see this widget in there. Care to put it back?

Thanks drmike – sorry about the lack of link! I (wrongly) assumed it would be “disclosed” with my username. To prevent further aggro, here is the relevant blog: http://mcheyne.wordpress.com
Anyway! The links you see, and have quoted above, *are* the problem! They should be generated this way:
http://www.edginet.org/esv/lookup.php?passage=Deuteronomy+1
http://www.edginet.org/esv/lookup.php?passage=Psalms+81-82
http://www.edginet.org/esv/lookup.php?passage=Isaiah+29
http://www.edginet.org/esv/lookup.php?passage=3+John+1But because the RSS is getting truncated at the first ampersand (so it would seem, anyway), the “default” lookup is rendered, and that’s the one pointing to Biblegateway.com, as you found.
So … I’m still puzzled! Maybe I’ll just have to live with it, but I wonder if anyone else is having “arguments” removed from the RSS feed widget?
David.

I’m having a similar issue. I wanted to use my Flickr RSS feed in a RSS widget (I don’t like the large amount of space the Flickr widget takes up). But, it’s stripping out the “@” in my user ID, so it’s displaying a default feed.
Why is the RSS widget stripping out information from completely valid addresses?
EDIT: I thought of a workaround as soon as I posted this. Luckily, it worked. I replaced the “@” in the URL with the hex value: %40. Of course, this only works if the character being replaced is a parameter value, not a separator.
