Running ads on my blog using Network Solutions
-
I want to be able to run targeted ads on my WordPress.com blog. I know WordPress.com doesn’t allow that, but I am wondering – if I move my blog hosting to Network Solutions can I then run ads on my blog? (Network Solutions has a WordPress package – http://www.networksolutions.com/web-hosting/wordpress/index.jsp?channelid=P61C100S1N0B2A1D541E0000V106)
If you could let me know I would appreciate it – I haven’t been able to find out the answer by calling Network Solutions.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Shannon,
Off of WordPress.com, you’d be using “WordPress.org” the same software that WordPress.com is built upon. More about the difference can be found at WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
Using WordPress.org, you’re not limited to our Terms of Service and can run ads on your site.
In addition to Network Solutions, there are a ton of hosts that offer support for WordPress.org. We have a few others listed at http://get.wp.com/hosting/ if you want to compare a couple.
Cheers!

Oh this is very helpful – thank you!
I have another question – if Network Solutions gives me FTP access, is there a way we can simply import all the content & images over from http://www.loveandfeathers.com to the Network Solutions UNIX hosting package I have?
I am concerned that the content and images won’t import over together (Love & Feathers is a very image-heavy blog).
So if you could let me know that would be very helpful – thanks!

Hi Shannon,
You can use our Export function at the Tools->Export page on your site’s dashboard.
Once you have WordPress.org installed, you can immediately visit Tools->Import and import the files from WordPress.com. There will be an option to “import attachments” that will bring your images and whatnot over.
With FTP access, uploading the images to Network Solutions alone wouldn’t add them to the database, so they wouldn’t be in your site’s Media Library.
Once you’re imported over, let me know and we can move over your WordPress.com followers and merge your stats.
Cheers!
