Running out of space for photos

    Hi All,

My wife has a blog with free plan and is running out of space for photos. What is the easiest way to link photos from Dropbox / Google drive or other sources for free, without upgrading plan until my wife makes any money from her blog?

    Thanks in advance,
    Pawel

Hi there, Dropbox only allows hotlinking images under one of their paid plans and it’s quite possible that the image will be uploaded to your site’s Media Library regardless. This is also what happens when you use Google Photos (not Drive). https://en.support.wordpress.com/photos-from-google/

You can use Media Embeds like from Getty, Flickr, or Instagram and those should not be uploaded to your Media Library as a result. https://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/#images-and-documents I have not tested all the embeds mentioned there to see if they are uploaded or not.

You may find it easiest to purchase the Personal plan upgrade which will give you an additional 3GB of storage and from that point onwards, make sure you are resizing and optimizing your images https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

Let us know if you have any other questions after reading those support guides.

Hello again, another option that I’ve recently become aware of is this Staff suggestion:

If you’re not interested in upgrading to one of our plans to increase your storage, another option could be to create a new free site, and export some of your old content to the new site. Then delete that content from the existing site – you’ll need to delete the posts and media files separately, though.

Or you can “archive” the existing site and start fresh on a new site – we can move your existing followers to the new site for you if you decide to go that route.

    Hope that helps.
