running out of space for photos and flickr now not working!!

I am not far of filling my media allowance on my blog and recently starting using flickr as a way of getting around this.
I want to post photos within post on my blog and for a few days pasting the url into the text blog where I type my post worked, but I’ve noticed now that it only shows the url and not the photo itself in my posts.
Using the add media function and insert from url doesn’t seem to work as it doesn’t recognise the flickr url for the photo and still just shows the url.

I’d love some advice as to where I’m going wrong in trying to use flickr, or if there is another photo sharing website I can use instead to get around the lack of space I have for media uploads.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Flickr embeds were not working for a short while on WordPress.com, but should be up and running again.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Please try the embed again and let us know if you still encounter any issues.

    Thanks!

the flickr slide show is not working now… I’m getting tired of updating this.. all the time..
so i guess flickr or wordpress do not cooperate together anymore..??

FYI im talking about this embed slide show that i use in all my blogs..
    [gigya src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/slideshow/show.swf?v=71649" width="600" flashvars="offsite=true&lang=en-us&page_show_url=/photos/walism/sets/72157655027951481/show/&page_show_back_url=/photos/walism/sets/72157655027951481/&set_id=72157655027951481&jump_to=" allowFullScreen="true" ]

@walism- flicker slideshows (both with and without using the gigya shortcode) stopped working on WordPress.com quite some time ago. WordPress.com never officially supported it.

@tinkadventures after you paste the link to the flickr photo on its own line in your post/page, make sure it isn’t highlighted as a link. If it is, use the “unlink” button to remove that.

On its own line means that there no code hanging around on the same line, like alignment settings and such. You can check by switching to the Text tab of the page/post Editor.

You know, with the excellent support for youtube on wordpress.com, I’m not clear why support for flickr or some other photo site is not a priority. We all know that it is not possible to download information from a wordpress.com site to back it up or preserve it, which makes it doubly interesting to not host photos on WordPress.com blogs.

Flickr, smugmug, photobucket, imgur, google photos etc are all photo hosting sites. Photobucket seems to work ok. I guess with a little work I could display a photo from the photobucket album, but have the photo link to a slideshow of the album. I don’t see a link to slideshow feature on flickr.

I guess what we are expecting is that a flicker album link just shows the first photo of the album, but then launches to the album interface in a new window, or a frame on the block like the youtube player, when it reaches flickr. Maybe wordpress.com mavens and Flickr mavens can work together on making something nice work. I can see that wordpress.com may not really like the “embed” style that flickr supplies. That’s ok with me. I’m not sold on pasting all that possibly changeable stuff from one site to another.

Like I said, youtube integration is really simple and looks bulletproof and long lasting. How about wordpress.com work with photo sites to provide something common like that? Should wordpress and tumblr and other blog sites call a conference to work out a standard they can all support for cross site embeds that are stronger, more secure and more permanent? OMG what a cool idea!

    Just a thought.
