Russell theme – how to display summary under blog title on homepage
-
Hello!
I have tried using the More Block feature but am still unable to create a summary / except of a blog post under the feature photo in the Home page! Arrgh :-) I hope this is possible under the Russell theme?

Hi there!
I’m not sure I understand where exactly you are trying to add the excerpt. Under one of the posts in the section Latest Stories? If you’d prefer to add a screenshot of what you mean, you can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply. Thank you!

Hi there and thank you for trying to help me :-)
Yes – I’d like an excerpt to appear under each on of Latest Stories block on the home page, in the same way as it does in the Blog page. Is this possible?

Hi there,
It looks like you have inserted a Post Template Block, which can contain the title, date, featured image, content, and/or excerpt. The featured image, post date, and title are all included, but you will need to add the post excerpt. I created a video below on how to do that from your home page:
Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thank you very much – and I am sorry to take more of your time… BUT
I have managed to duplicate the excerpt! The first block of text is redundant and I don’t see an obvious way of deleting it :-( This may be because I’m editing in my phone, but can you help delete it?
Thank you!

Hi again, to clarify, do you want to get rid of the two-column option, and have the excerpts go across the page in a long line?
And, do you want the title and featured image option in there as well, or just the excerpt by itself?
If you look at the list view, you can see the different parts of the post, and decide which ones to keep. If you don’t want them in two columns, you can move them so they’re outside of the Posts Template block and in their own column:

Hello Staff, and thank you for reaching out.
To recap – I wanted to keep the individual “stories” at the bottom of my Home page, with an Image, Title and Excerpt from each of the Blog posts.
I do not necessarily want to get rid of the 2-columns option – I need the simplest. So far I have 1 written Blog post (Introduction) and another is coming soon (Methodology). I’d like the both to be displayed independently ie with separate titles, images and excerpts. I will be adding more posts to the Blog and I’d like them all to behave the same way on the Home page…Currently my home page is duplicating a Home block at the bottom, somehow, and I cannot get rid of it: it only appears in the Preview / Live version, not in the editor view.
I hope I am making some sense. Unfortunately I think that somewhere along the lines things got quite badly mixed up. It is a marked dissertation for college, so I am anxious to restore it to a logical state quite quickly or I will be marked down…

Hi there again,
Okay, I think(?) I understand what’s going on now. So, the entire query loop block is all connected. That means, for example, if you try to delete the one excerpt block under Introduction, it will delete all the except blocks within that loop. So, instead of going that route, what you will need to do is keep all the excerpt blocks and rather delete the text content from the excerpt module (bottom right) under the Introduction post. That will remove the text, but keep the block and the text from the other excerpt block intact.
Hope that helps a bit, let me know if you still have any questions.
Thanks!

Hi again and thank you!
So I have deleted that content and things are improving :-)
What still trumps me this:1. in Preview / Live mode on the Home page i have lost my Stories blocks to blog posts. I can see them in editor view: Latest Stories: 2 blocks with image & title. Why are they not visible in the live view?
2. At the bottom of the home page (preview / live), under ‘Latest stories’ I now see a date and a link to Home.
Any ideas as to how I could get rid of 2 and revert to 1 (ideally with Blog excerpt under each image)?
Huge thanks!

Hello again,
I’m not sure what happened, to be honest. Can you delete the whole Query Loop block and either add it again or try with a Blog Posts block instead?

Thank you Fresatomica and everyone else – I’ve finally got a decent looking home page, behaving as intended. Phew 😮💨
Very grateful for your help! -
So glad you’ve got it! Sometimes just removing and re-adding it again is the way to go. Cheers :)
