s2.wp.com down?
-
I’m in the UK and having trouble at the moment accessing wordpress.com.
Everything seems to hang at s2.wp.com or s0.wp.com
On my DNS it looks like s0/s2.wp.com is an alias for http://cs82.wac.edgecastcdn.net/ which seems down/inaccessible for me.
Is there a problem?
Suggestions?

There’s no disruption on our side. You can review our status page: http://status.automattic.com/
Can you please try clearing out your cache?
Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Safari or Google Chrome?
-
Different browsers, clearing caceh make no difference.
Opening this page takes 5 minutes while requests to s2/s0 time out.$ host s2.wp.com
s2.wp.com is an alias for cs82.wac.edgecastcdn.net.
cs82.wac.edgecastcdn.net has address 93.184.220.111
cs82.wac.edgecastcdn.net has IPv6 address 2606:2800:234:1922:15a7:17bf:bb7:f09
$ ping 93.184.220.111
PING 93.184.220.111 (93.184.220.111): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1…..etcIsitdownforme etc all report cs82.wac.edgecastcdn.net. as down.
I’m guessing edgecast are the ultimate file host for WP? perhaps there is an issue with DNS or something?

OK, I’m finding strange DNS results (throught two different DNS providers) Can someone pls confirm the real IP address for s2.wp.com
Is it 93.184.220.111 or 72.21.91.111 or indeed something else entirely?
-
The first IP is the correct IP. I took a look and everything is working properly. Are you visiting WordPress.com from a residential or business location? it’s possible that something is blocking the connection at your end. Please contact your local system/network administrator or your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think its more than that. Having done some more digging –
Am I correct that you use the edgecast CDN cloud service? I suspect a config glitch or dns latency issue.
The cloud load balancing will serve different IP addresses – which is happening, I now see 3 differnt IP addresses for s2.wp.com looking here: http://www.opendns.com/support/cache/
(68.232.44.111 is the third)I suspect I’m just going to have a wait and see if things sort themselves out – but I’m pretty sure it isnt a local issue.
-
OK – it was local.
I curse the billion bipac 7402 which chooses to randomly implement firewall features whcih are explicitly disabled and then place ‘offending’ sites in a hidden blacklist which cannot be viewed at all and can only be cleared after you enable the firewall feature which is not enabled.
apparently a ‘quirk’ of the device. -
