Safari 4 Beta – editor hickups
-
In my German-language blog rossau.wordpress.com it’s not possible to insert links or images any more with the brand new Safari Beta 4 (all other things are working perfect) on Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard. The sreen will gray out and no more input is possible (only “Return” on the browser with all changes deleted).
I’ll have to use HTML or Opera (I don’t want to downgrade to old Safari) for editing my wordpress blog.
Anyone else encountered this problem? Or is it a language thing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did the editor work for you with Safari 3? I have never been able to use the “visual editor” consistently with Safari and you will see multiple references in these forums about it as well.

You can edit links and image tags if you switch to html editing. Just click the HTML tab and you can do what you want. This Safari 4 public beta bug has been mentioned at least twice in the Safari 4 beta forum, and I’ve reported it to Apple.

Until it is released as Final we will not be looking too hard at fixing any issues.
We did not address issues on IE7 until final, do not address issues on Firefox or Opera. Safari is no different – on final we will spend time on it, until then you will have to stay with whatever happens. It’s beta, bugs and other ‘interesting effects’ are to be expected. -

Somebody in the wordpress.org forum (1*) said uncontradicted that TinyMce should be the culprit: “The problem is caused by TinyMce as you can see on their website. (2*)” It seems to be true — the demo editor at this site shows the same behaviour like the wordpress.com editor.
I downloaded Opera 10 Alpha for Intel Macs (3*). It works fine so far with the wordpress editor, it’s stable and a bit faster than 9.63 final.

So five minutes ago I downloaded
http://builds.nightly.webkit.org/files/trunk/mac/WebKit-SVN-r41279.dmgClosed Safari (I even don’t know if that was necessary) and hit the file in the dmg — voilà! After a quick test the wordpress.com WYSIWYG editor works like with Safari 3.2.1 (Leopard).
