Sales question – multiple websites
-
Hello, I’m interested in getting more information about transferred from self-hosted Wordress sites to WordPress.com to scale back self hosting and technical issues. Do I need to sign up or add each new site under one account and point domain names to each WordPress.com site? Is it possible to use existing theme from self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com or I have to use one of the themes it offers? Thank you.

Hi @amygd,
Thank you for reaching out!
to scale back self hosting and technical issues.
Could you please specify what do you mean? Then we could advice more specifically.
Do I need to sign up or add each new site under one account
Yes, one account is ok. As long as you have an account on WordPress.com already, you can create multiple websites under that account. If you have no website created yet, you can start here: https://wordpress.com/website-builder-blog/. If you already have one or more websites, you can add them using this manual: https://wordpress.com/support/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account
point domain names to each WordPress.com site?
After you create websites on WordPress.com, you can point your domain names to each website, that is called mapping. Here is manual how to do that: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/.
Also you can transfer your existing domains to WordPress.com, here is the difference between transferring and mapping: https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/. But not all domains can be transferred, we will can tell that once we know your domain names.
Please also note, that each website created on WordPress.com will have a free subdomain (like your-site.wordpress.com) that you can use. And if you need, you can register a new custom domain on WordPress.com.Is it possible to use existing theme from self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com or I have to use one of the themes it offers?
It depends on a theme you have. Please tell the Theme name you have?

Thank you for quick reply to my post.
Scale back on hosting & technical issues: I have several WordPress powered sites hosted on a web hosting server (self hosted) but would like to transition to a platform that I don’t have to deal with web hosting issues if possible and I like WordPress as a CMS.
If I bought third party theme (Phlox Pro) for example can I use this theme on WordPress.com? Or I have to start all over again?

Using third party themes on WordPress.com requires either the Business or eCommerce plan:

Take a look and let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.
