(email visible only to moderators and staff) email verification email looks like phishing
-
Hi – You guys are great so I just wanted to give you a heads up on something not-so-great.
I recently bought the url tyjacksonauthor.com via WordPress.com. I then got a very phishy looking email from (email visible only to moderators and staff) claiming to be be from WordPress.com (below). It was requesting me to verify my email address. I ignored it the first time because it looked dodgy, but clicked the ‘verify’ button the second time the email came, assuming it must be legit. I hope it was!
Because the return address is (email visible only to moderators and staff) but it pretends to be from WordPress, it looks really bad. Thought you should know.
Thanks,
Ty Jackson———- Forwarded message ———-

Hi there,
Thanks for checking with us first. This is a new requirement for buying a domain name, and because it is a recent implementation (a required by ICANN) we’re working on making it seem less spammy.
Please DO RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL
There are 2 separate verifications that need to happen. The first is verifying your WordPress.com account.
The second is verifying the domain registration – that would be the email you received from (email visible only to moderators and staff) – all you have to do is click on the “Verify your email address” button. If you already did that, then you are good to go!
I’m sorry for the confusion and please let me know if you have any other questions.
