same seo from website and wordpress site?

i have been talking with a person who says i should keep my website, and only use wordpress as a blog that the website has a link to. i don’t want to keep my website because i love it that i can edit my wordpress site. but he says it doesn’t get the seo. I would like to get rid of website and change the name of my wordpress site to my website name. is this possible and is it a good idea? thank you! sharon

If I’m following what you’re saying, your friend doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
WordPress.com sites have better SEO than any other kinds of sites I’ve ever seen, including independently-hosted WordPress.
What he maybe means is that your website isn’t getting any spinoff SEO bonus from your blog, because they’re hosted in two different places. That’s true. In order for your website to get an SEO bonus from a blog, you’d have to install WP.org software and embed the blog in your website. That means moving off WordPress.com.
