Sandbox’s Morning Sickness

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

    Is it just me or my browsers (Firefox, Opera, Opera Mini) or is it the Sandbox-10 that every morning my sidebars cover almost the whole width of the wrapper and leave only a little space for my content?

    I deleted my codes from the css editor half an hour ago, but even the original Sandbox-10 design is all as messy as my design! But it only happens in the morning. At night everything is normal. Funny, don’t you think.

    Does it happen to you?

    Thanx.

  • Most likely there’s something in your sidebar (the feed perhaps?) that is too wide and thus causing it to expand. Firebug (the extension for Firefox) is the best way to find out.

    Your blog looks normal to me right now.

    Yes. Right after I found out that other user of Sandbox-10’s blog was alright, I knew the problem must have been me, or on my browsers. But could it be the feed? I thought, as long as I leave the CSS editor blank, things would run on default settings like, sidebar takes only around 20% of space and widgets flow inside the sidebar like they should.

    Oh, ok, Firebug. Sorry, I missed that. Thanx, Telly.

    Wait a minute. I’ve designed and redesigned my blog more than a couple of time, could it be the cause of this mess?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m back.

    The problem is absolutely not my browsers, nor my computers. I’ve checked my blog on a public computer, and I saw the same problem:

    Sidebars widened, covering almost 80% of my site.

    And this is what’s in my CSS Editor:

    /* Welcome to Custom CSS!

    If you are familiar with CSS or you have a stylesheet ready to paste, you may delete these comments and get started.

    CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a kind of code that tells the browser how to render a web page. Here's an example:

    img { border: 1px solid red; }

    That line basically means "give images a red border one pixel thick."

    CSS is not very hard to learn. If you already know a little HTML it will be fun to move things around on the web page by changing your stylesheet. There are many free references to help you get started. You can find helpful links, starter stylesheets and knowledgable people in the forum:

    We hope you enjoy developing your custom CSS. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

    You can not edit the stylesheets of your theme. Your stylesheet will be loaded after the theme stylesheets, which means that your rules can take precedence and override the theme CSS rules. The Sandbox theme is recommended for those who would prefer to start from scratch.

    CSS comments will be stripped from your stylesheet. */

    /* This is a comment. Comments begin with /* and end with */

    /*
    Things we strip out include:
     * HTML code
     * @import rules
     * expressions
     * invalid and unsafe code
     * URLs not using the http: protocol

    Things we encourage include:
     * @media blocks!
     * sharing your CSS!
     * testing in several browsers!

    Now that’s what I should do: the contact form!

    There is a problem, I see…
    Actually – the last day or so, when I go to raincoasters, it loads the page without css for about 4 seconds before the css kicks in… on you page, though, it just stays non-styled :-S (I’ll have a look at df’s too).

  • Unknown's avatar

    ok – you three are the only sandbox users I can think of right now, and rain and DF’s pages do the same: load without css for four-five seconds. Your page does not load css at all. Weird. Staff..hello!

  • Unknown's avatar

    My page doesn’t load css at all because I have deleted every lines I wrote.

    So what you have seen, boblets, was default Sandbox-10 settings. No overriding codes.

    I did that because I wanted to see whether the problem’s my codes or something else.

    Now I see it’s something else, not my codes. I guess, I’ll just wait until everything’s fixed. Until then, I must use another theme. Maybe Sandbox. Not Sandbox-10. Hahaha!

    Thanx, boblets. You’re a great girl!

    Sweet! Cheers, yella.
    There is something odd going on, yes. Figure it will all be solved monday. Other sandbox users should beware and not fiddle with anything ’till then..

  • Unknown's avatar

    …but I am fiddling with it just now…

    I set up the sidebar into 160px wide and it worked. Well, it had always seemed fine at night (my zone’s night). Let’s see what would happen 10 hours later.

    I use CSS with Sandbox and I haven’t noticed any problems at all.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I think it’s alright now. I haven’t noticed any theme disorders since Aug 18, 4:00 a.m GMT+7.
