Save all content in archive, clearing blog for new student use?
-
Wanted to archive entire blog, keeping all the posts but on separate page, so that blog is clear again and ready for this semester’s students. So I exported the content, then imported it to new page. Nothing happened. I followed all help info, so know I’m missing something. I sure hope there’s a quick way to do this!! Thanks,

If you don’t have a lot of content and don’t wish to wait for Staff to delete it for you then you can quickly remove your contents by deleting them in bulk.
bulk delete images & media http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/deleting-files/#bulk-deletion
bulk delete posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/#bulk-edit
bulk delete pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/edit-pages-screen/#bulk-edit
Here’s how to permanently delete Trash >
http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#deleting-permanentlyAlternatively, if you do have a lot of content, you can tag this thread with modlook in the sidebar and Staff can empty the whole blog for you. That will remove all data including posts, pages, tags, categories, comments, and uploaded files and once deleted, the data cannot be recovered. If you are sure you want Staff to proceed, please reply to confirm the URL of the blog you want them to empty.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content does not remove it from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Wanted to archive entire blog, keeping all the posts but on separate page …
That’s not the way blogs operate. When we publish the software automatically posts to the Archives, Categories and Tags pages. If you delete any posts at all they are gone from the Archives, Categories and Tags pages. When you create an XML export file it is a copy of the content in the blog. If you want to clear the blog then after you upload the XML export file to your computer you can bulk delete the content.

Thank you so much. Then would the old fall semester content be gone and not accessible to spring students? I want to clear (archive) the current posts, so monthly archives remain but we’re open for new threads. i know this is probably incredibly easy…

I’ve figured it out — I am so sorry to have bothered you! But thank you for so quickly coming to my aid.

In case someone else pulls this out of the searchbox in the future note that one can make posts and pages private.
