Save Custom Name Servers Not Working

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I am trying to upload my new website from Adobe Muse to my new host at HostGator. I had both my domain name purchased and site here at WordPress, but now I’d like to just keep my domain with WordPress and point it to the site I plan on uploading to HostGator. I’ve spoken with tech support at HostGator and they assured me all I had to do was change the nameservers in WordPress to theirs, then do an FTP upload from Muse to get the site up and running. But every time I go into WordPress > Domains > Resitered Domain: Primary Domain (genevievehernandez.com) > disable Privacy Protection/Name Servers and DNS > disable Use WordPress.com Name Servers and insert the name servers given to me by HostGator I receive “The nameservers provided are not valid” error. I’m a newb to all of this so I have no idea where I’m going wrong. Please help!

  • Hi there,

What are the name servers you’re trying to add?

    Hello kokkieh,

    The name servers are:
    ns6053.hostgator.com
    ns6054.hostgator.com

    Thanks for responding!

  • The name servers have been saved as requested.

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, your domain may go to its old location, and you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors.”

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 24 hours have passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache: http://www.refreshyourcache.com/

If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache: https://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html
