Saved drafts disappearing.

I saved a draft of a 1500 word document. I spent much time on it and am very upset because it was completely erased after pressing the save draft button. Please advise.

This glitch has been going on for months (and so far WP has found nothing to do or say about it). But do you really mean you wrote 1500 words without ever pressing Save in the meantime? (Do you also do that when writing in a word processor?)

Well, it had been autosaving and after all, I did press “save draft,” which if I had pressed it before, it seems it still would have managed to delete my progress—rather than ‘saving’ it. It seemed like there was more than enough of saving going on to make sure a copy survived…..somehow…..

If it had been auto-saving, then you had pressed Save Draft before. Which is good: edit the draft and check the Revisions module for the best saved version. If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the post editor screen, click Screen Options (top right) to activate it.

In the future avoid using drafts altogether: when starting a new post, write a couple of words, set the visibility to private, publish the post, continue editing and updating, turn to public when finished. Or type the text in a word processor then copypaste it into the HTML editor (if you copypaste into the Visual editor you’ll introduce junk code that will mess things up).

    Ahhh…thanks so much!
