If you are trying to use Zemanta, then you need to use the Visual editor:
http://support.zemanta.com/customer/portal/articles/715550-zemanta-plugin-for-wordpress-comCurrently, Zemanta works on English-language blogs. It only works in the visual editor mode. It’s not available on private blogs. Photos recommended by Zemanta are copyright-cleared, but we encourage you to check out the photo’s license if you have any doubts (you can do that by hovering over the photo).

Hi there! I too am new to blogging with WordPress and I’m stumped as to why I keep getting the message “You need to write your blog in Visual for Zemanta to work. Does this mean my blog is not being seen properly? I have been publishing but I don’t know if Zemanta is converting something or if I need to change how I am publishing my blog? Please help.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply!
I’m afraid that Zemanta is only active when you’re editor is in the ‘Visual’ mode and that it is inactive while in the ‘Text’ or ‘HTML’ mode. You’ll have to switch back from the ‘HTML’ to ‘Visual’ mode for our widget to be active again. Please look at the attached screenshot for easier navigation: http://cl.ly/image/15323N1i3702
Let me know if you have any further questions or if you need any kind of assistance — I’ll gladly help! Here’s my email address: support[at]zemanta[dot]com
Take care & have a nice day!
Best,
Silvo
