saving draft failed

  As yet in draft form only – a story with pictures – so far 14k words plus three pictures. Saving of draft has today failed for first time. Is there a limit to the amount of content I can post?

  Hi there,

  There’s no limit on the length or number of drafts, but very long drafts can start causing problems, especially if there are any interruptions in your internet connection while we’re trying to save it.. If you’re working on something that long it might be better to use an offline text editor or word processor for creating the draft, and only copying it to your site once you’re ready to publish.

  Most blog readers are unlikely to read a post of that length all in one go, and we don’t really offer an option to save a post in the Reader so you can easily come back to it later. Have you considered breaking it up into several posts and then publishing the story in a series of episodes over a period of time? I think more people would be likely to read it if you do it that way.

  Hello Kokkieh,

  Thanks for your helpful comments. I have in fact been using an offline word processor to create the draft and transferring blocks of it over – which seems to work well – but then I started making revisions online which is when the problem occurred. However, wordpress did start saving again soon after I posted my question and it’s working well now.

  It had occurred to me to break the story up into several separate posts so I’ll give it a try.

  Then it’s most likely a temporary connection problem that caused the issue. Next time this happens, try unplugging your modem/router for a few seconds to reset it.

  While I’ve never personally had problems with the autosave feature, with that kind of word count you should definitely be saving more than one copy, so I’m glad to hear you have it backed up in a word processor as well :)
