Saving Pictures

I use quite a lot of pictures on my blog, and have well over 100 in my Media Library. The vast majority of my published pics are also stored in my Microsoft Digital Images programme. I almost always uplift the pics from a source, e.g.newspapers, into my computer Windows Vista ‘Pictures’, thence onto blog, and save pic in Windows Dig Image programme. The uplifted pic in ‘Pictures’ is then deleted. (Sorry ’tis so long-winded!) I’m just thinking of doing some tidying-up and wondered whether the blog pics will be lost if I delete, either from my Media Library, or Windows Dig Image. (Learning from experience, every time I try to tidy-up, I manage to foul-up!!) Does this make sense?

If nobody helps me then you do not get a Xmas Card.

    Lovely!

But I’m not sure what you’re asking, really. If you’re talking about an image stored both in your computer AND in your blog’s Media Library, then deleting either one won’t affect the other. If the image you delete from the ML isn’t part of a post or a page, no problem; if it is, then in the blog you get a ? or an x in its place.

Don’t know if I got you covered – let me know, cause I want the Card!

What confuses me is; ALL images which go into my blog, go into the ML. Yes? So they are ALL in the ML, surely?

Well, depends… If you uploaded them from your computer to the blog, yes. If you uploaded them in an external host like photobucket and just used the URL from there, no.

(Do I get the Card now? Do I get the Card?)

    pan… perhaps you are a card. *L*
    dickiebo,
I’m a Mac person, so have no idea what “Windows Vista ‘Pictures’,” nor what “Windows Dig Image programme” are.
But if you uploaded to WordPress Media Library or to an image host like photobucket or flikr (then linked to your blog), then leave those alone. You can safely delete them from your computer and the pictures will still show in your blog. I have 942 (compressed) pictures on WordPress, and plenty of space left for many, many more.

Personally, I keep my original images on my computer or on back-up media. Just playing the paranoira -card of “what if” WordPress, Flikr, or photobucket goes down. Note that I have gotten rid of cassettes, discs, and discettes or supposedly “important” digital information. But a back-up can’t hurt…
