Saving the wrong draft
-
My caps here aren’t abusive, I promise! Just a rant. I lost a long post yesterday. When you preview a save in WordPress, a new window opens. If you then edit from THAT WINDOW, a second edit window opens. That could go on several times, so that, if you aren’t careful, several edit views are open at the same time. If you THEN save by mistake from one that isn’t the latest, you lose all your later work. This might seem obvious, but why MUST previews open in a new view? This is the equivalent of that stupid Microsoft question (at least in the Word version for Macs): “Do you wish to revert to the saved version of X?” (STOP ASKING ME STUPID QUESTIONS!: the answer is ALWAYS No, in the real, not Microsoft, world!!)

I have been stung by this also and spend as much time closing tabs as I do editing. Can we not change the interval of these autosaves as well ? I can’t type THAT fast!

And yet WordPress constantly tells us nowadays that there are “more recent autosaves” of a draft than the one we are now working on – even when only ONE editing window is open. Which makes no sense at all!
