saving widgets when changing themes

  Is there a way to save widgets when changing your theme? I’ve got 3 blogs that run in conjunction with one another but I need to update my theme. I’d really rather not have to keep reentering widgets every time I make a change. Is there some way to get around this or copy them en mass?

  When we change themes all widgets in use are automatically placed in the Inactive Widgets box and we replace them after we change themes. There is no way to make them stay in place. Every time a new theme is activated there is a sidebar display that appears to contain widgets. They are not actual widgets. We drag the widgets out of the Inactive Widgets box and place them where we want them and the default display disappears.
