Scarcity of Good Themes
-
What I think, there is scarcity of good free themes in WordPress. Even Blogger.com has many. Can the executives look into the matter?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yeah, I’ve checked all of them but couldn’t find a good “free news template” as per my choice. That’s why I’m searching for other platforms.
-
Can you define “free news template” for us please? Someone may know of how an existing theme can be configured to meet your needs.
-
By “free news template” I wanted to mean free templates especially designed to meet the requirements of a news site. However, I don’t know how to configure an existing theme. Could any one please help?
-
@mainakbasudev
We cannot edit templates and themes here. The themes we have are all uniquely designed. They are no cookie cutter themes like the Blogger template themes. A classic magazine theme featuring a custom menu, header and background is The Morning After theme. It is the most customizable of all the magazine styled themes. Here is a link to a guide to The Morning After theme. In the Themes Showcase you will find a search box with filter features that will help you narrow you search to magazine styled themes.
-
P.S. I’m most certainly not impressed by Blogger themes at all and wonder why on earth you are. What’s under the hood counts for lots and right out of the box the HTML and CSS onj Blogger themes fail to validate. I have tested them and so has thesacredpath. We found that on average right out of the box Blogger themes will produce 300 or more mark-up errors.

@mainakbasudev What existing theme were you looking at configuring? We can help get that sorted out for you either here or via support.
Also, if you see any cool free news templates you’d like to see on WordPress.com, let us know. We’ll take a look at getting them added here.

Thanks all of you for your insightful replies. Though there are a total of 143 themes and a few news/ magazine themes, I don’t feel them appropriate to host a professional magazine/ news website.
@themesshaper there are a lot of free & appreciable news/ magazine themes in the web. I’m attaching a url for your kind consideration where you will come across some stunning themes for wordpress.

If you can manage some of those t be absolutely free for us (the users of WordPress), it’d be great.
Awaiting to hear from you.

If you are starting an actual professional news site, WordPress.com is highly unlikely to meet your needs in the first place.
-
Really!! Then what should I do? Would you please guide. Actually. I’m not that much technically sound and don’t have such fellows in my team.
-
There are some nice ones there. Of the ones on that page, what were your favorites?
Many of the themes here can be modified with different backgrounds and headers so maybe you can make an existing WordPress theme right for you.
I used Enterprise for a couple of years and it’s quite versatile and capable of many different looks.

Then it really doesn’t sound like you’re ready to launch a business. Start blogging at WordPress.com and don’t worry about making it “professional” until after you’ve done all the research necessary to know about advertisers, WordPress.org installs, and theme hacking. It’s not a trivial undertaking, if you want to be a media site.
-
@raincoaster Yeah, i’m now not in a position to launch my professional news site. However, I’ve researched a lot and knew something about domain registration, hosting etc. But I’ve not heard of theme hacking, could you please elaborate?
-
Theme Hacking is changing the PHP code in a Theme to give it functionality that you want – problem is that if you don’t know what you are doing you can open up security holes for your site that let a hacker in who then does damage to your site –
-
Then I mustn’t do that as I know nothing about php and all those stuffs. However, is there anyone who is interested in contributing for a news magazine?
