Scheduled Post Delay

I used schedule post today for the first time (as I plan to do every day from now on) and there seems to be a bit of a delay with maybe the post and definitely the email notification.
I set the schedule for 4.30am (I have checked that the time setting are correct on my blog). The post may well have published on the blog at 4.30am (I’m not sure how you tell this?) but the problem is that the email notifications did not come through to peoples emails until 6.31am. I also just had an email from someone who didn’t receive the email at all – it didn’t go to their junk.
As the main aim is to get the post to peoples emails nice and early, this is a problem.
Any ideas?

Scheduled posts do not publish until the first visitor to the site after the date and time scheduled clicks in and triggers publication of the post.

Wow, really? It’s not really a scheduled post then, is it? Seems like a crazy feature! Is there any reason for it? And any way around it? I’m not getting up at 4am just to click in to the post!

So does someone just need to visit the site? So I could just schedule an HTTP request from an external system for just after the scheduled post? Then it would post?

Someone has to click into the site. I assume a bot would not be able to trigger publication but I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

timethief is correct. Because of the way the posting action is triggered on our servers, someone needs to visit the site before the post is published. Using an automated process to trigger the post does appear to work – we just need something to execute the scripts for the site, which will check for any posts timed for publication.
Emails should go out at approximately the same time as the post is published, but there sometimes may be a delay.

Thanks @jackiedana – I actually set up an automated http request to my blog yesterday and this morning it triggered on time so either someone visited at 4am or it worked. We’ll see if it works again tomorrow!
