Scheduled Post Question – First Visitor

  • Unknown's avatar

I set up a Post last night – set scheduled time to publish at 1:00 am – email was received at 2:39 am – OK so far since a scheduled Post is published on first visit after the scheduled time and the time is then set back to the scheduled time.

But when I looked at the stats the only visit was to the Post that was just published – there are also no Syndicated views –

I would have expected a visit to a Page or Post that is not the one that was published – and the just published was the only one with any views

Is there something I am missing in the fine print?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

PS – there is a screen shot of the stats in the Media Library – Scheduled-01

    Hello! :)

Apologies for not knowing, but which blog are you using to test? I’ll be happy to take a look at that screenshot once I know where to look.

With stats (views, visits, etc), those stats aren’t updated in real time, but periodically throughout the day, so that might explain not seeing any views after the scheduled post is published.

Let me know if you have any questions!

The blog I need help with is svcodeblue.wordpress.com.

Sorry – I did the drop down pick in the first post but forgot that I admin more than one blog and did not post it in the post – I know the stats are not real time and that does not bother me and at times I find it amusing (as in after midnight when the day resets and I see – 1 visitor from 8 countries and 33 page views)

My question has to do with the First visitor after midnight – the Post published at 3:39 am based on my email receipt – and the only visitors and views were to the new Post – early in the day – – since it requires a visit to publish a scheduled Post – I am wondering why the only traffic for several hours was straight to the Post – I would have expected to see at least a view to another Post of something that would have triggered the new Post being published

yes it is sort of a nit pick – I used to do industrial software and any unexpected behavior makes me curious here (my old job unexpected behavior could cause things to literally blow up)

    thanks for any help

Thanks! I checked the blog linked to the thread, but I did not see a screenshot in your media library – so I thought I had the wrong site. Is the screenshot elsewhere?

Yes, what you’re saying about the first visitor after midnight only going to the new post when the post didn’t actually publish until hours later is odd. If you can let me know where I can view the screenshot of your stats page at the time that went through, I can try and look into it further.

No worries about nitpicking! We appreciate your diligence. :)

Sorry – my error – I spaced out and did not upload the screen shot – to make up for the error I have uploaded Two copies :) into the Code Blue Media Library – the link to one of them is below

    thanks

    Thanks for that!

I’ll need to look into this further and get back to you once I have more information.

Let me know if you have questions in the meantime!

    Thank you.

    Thanks for checking

I did find another odd Stats behavior this morning – I have seen it a time or two in the past – different site – captnmike.com – there is a Click on my stats page to navgear.com – the issue is that I don’t have a link to them anywhere on my site that I can find – THEY do have a few links to my Posts –

It looks like either a visit to my site is not being reported correctly or someone has stuck a link onto my site that I am not aware of.

There is a screen shot called “Clicks-June-17-2013” in the captnmike media library and yes I did double check it this time :)

    Thanks for checking

Regarding the scheduled post issue – I’ve passed that along to our engineers. Thanks for taking the time to test and post about the issue.

With the link on captnmike, I ran your site through our link evaluation tool and I didn’t find any reference to that link anywhere, so the link isn’t in your posts anywhere. Is the link always to that specific post on navgear, or does it change? The only thing I can think of is that someone from that site commented on a post and had that link as their site URL?

    Thanks for checking things –

also thanks for the hint on the comment – I did find the links (nice of you to have a search comments global thing that will look at the links and not just the text

The links were in a Pingback and I missed it some time back – they are sometimes a bit aggressive on the amount of a Post they put on their site – so I was not too thrilled about a link to send them traffic –

thanks again for the help & good luck to the engineers finding the publishing time “feature”

Glad you were able to find the offending link! Happy to help. :)
