Scheduled Posts not posting

  • Unknown's avatar

My scheduled posts aren’t posting and on the forums I’ve read it seems to be a common problem, though I haven’t come across a solution. The last forum I read recommended contacting support directly for help. Please let me know how to successfully schedule posts (that post). Thanks so much, Lauren

Hi Lauren, I see you made adjustments to your Time Zone settings yesterday. This issue may have been responsible for the unpublished posts.

It appears as if the 14th is the next time a Post is scheduled for publication on laurenshow.wordpress.com/. I checked on the settings for this post, and it appears to be set up correctly.

Additionally, I followed your blog, so I will know on the 14th if the Publication was successful or not.

Unless you schedule another Post before then, we’ll have to wait until the 14th to see if it launches, or if it’s another dud. Please touch base with me at the end of the day on the 14th and let’s confirm how we need to proceed on this issue.

    Thanks very much!

Hi Robyn, Thanks so much for getting back to me and looking into the problem so thoroughly. I really appreciate it.

I had originally scheduled a post Tuesday, 4/8 at 11:15 am, which never published. After researching online, I changed the time zone and tried to reschedule it but it never went live. I deleted it and created a new post which wordpress automatically added a “2” to the end of, because it has the same title as the deleted post.

Since you’re following the blog and everything seems to be in order, I’m going to set another scheduled post for tomorrow, 4/11 at 11 a so that we can know if it’s working sooner than waiting for the 4/14 post. One quick question: is there a way to tell if you’re scheduling for am or pm? I didn’t see the option.
Thank you again for all of your support!
    Lauren

Lauren, Thanks for all the details. Very helpful!

When you set the time for a scheduled post, it’s a 24-hour clock, so 11:00 is 11 AM, but 23:00 is 11 PM. The time is based on your local settings for your site.

That is great news about scheduling a post for April 11. Let’s touch base and see what happens.

I assume you are Following your own blog, via email? If not, please do!

Fingers crossed. Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Robyn, Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly!
The post didn’t publish so I checked it and noticed it was set to “draft”. Once I changed the status to publish, it published immediately. But it didn’t post to facebook, linkedIn and twitter, as I had set it to in the scheduler. It seems like the scheduler is still not working.
When I do schedule another post, what should the status be in order for it to post when scheduled? Also, aside from the status issue, how do I get the scheduler to work – as we both thought everything was set correctly? Lastly, once it does work, is there a way to set it to post to multiple places on facebook at once?
Thank you again for your guidance on all,
    Lauren

Hi Lauren, Ah! I didn’t notice the draft status before. Very good catch. When you schedule a post for future publication, you want to make certain “draft” is not your setting. As you had to manually launch the post, and your social media links were connected to the scheduler, they didn’t publish either.

Additionally, I know this sounds odd…there have to be visits to your site between your last publication, and your scheduled post, for it to work properly. Your own view of your blog doesn’t count. Although, you can log out of your account entirely and visit your site as a general viewer. I don’t think this is an issue for you, but I want you to be aware.

Lastly, once it does work, is there a way to set it to post to multiple places on facebook at once?

Could you clarify this for me? Do you mean, can it publish to more than one Facebook account? If so, yes. That’s doable. If you’re referring to something else, please let me know!

I’ve created a test site, and matched your settings for your April 14th post. Except mine is set to launch tonight. I will let you know if everything worked properly with this settings.

We’ll get this figured out — I really appreciate your patience. I’ll be in touch after my post (hopefully) publishes to WordPress.com and to social networking. Thanks much!

    Hi Robyn,

Thanks so much for getting back to me with all of this info and for launching the test site and post!

Regarding your response, I have a few questions. Ensuring the scheduled posts aren’t set to ‘draft’, which setting should be selected?
Also, in order to make sure the blog gets views in between scheduled posts, you mentioned logging out to view the blog as an option. Does that mean I need to sign out of the dashboard?

As for posting to multiple places on facebook, I have a personal account, a group and a page. When I click on the ‘facebook’ link under the ‘publicize’ section of the ‘publish’ window, my three facebook options come up with check boxes next to each. However, it seems to only let me select one of the boxes, not all three. Is there away to set the post to publish to my personal status, my group and my page?

Lastly, this is more of a general question and if more helpful I can open a separate thread, but I’m wondering if wordpress recommends any steps for new bloggers to get the word out about our blogs and things we can do to drum up more followers. Any additional advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for all, Robyn!

    Hello Lauren!

The latest news is that my test site launched the scheduled post properly. So, we’ll get yours up and running, too!

On the 14th, if your post doesn’t launch right at 11am, don’t click Publish on it. Just let me know and I can look into the issue. Once you Publish manually, it’s impossible for me to see why it didn’t go live.

Ensuring the scheduled posts aren’t set to ‘draft’, which setting should be selected?

You don’t actually need a setting selected. This is how a scheduled post should appear:
    https://cloudup.com/cMLVl4GT_ew

Notice that where it might say “Draft,” there is just a blank space. If the post has scheduled properly, that field should disappear from view.

Is there away to set the post to publish to my personal status, my group and my page?

Thanks for the clarification. You can only add one Facebook page in this case. You can certainly click the Facebook sharing button at the bottom of your published posts to send the post over to multiple Facebook accounts, however. This would have to be a manual posting to Facebook, rather than automatic.

I’m wondering if wordpress recommends any steps for new bloggers to get the word out about our blogs and things we can do to drum up more followers.

I would be good it you opened a new thread as it’s a brand new topic, however, why don’t I help get the ball rolling for you?

I recommend reading this link about Freshly Pressed. It gives instructions about how to make your blog visible to our Freshly Pressed editors, but I think it gives great general advice:

Here are two links I highly recommend as well:

A piece of personal advice: send an email out to everyone you know who might support you. Write a short, sweet, inviting note that makes them want to visit…and ask them to forward your site to other people that might like to read it as well. It’s amazing how your personal network can help build you a solid foundation in the beginning.

Thanks so much! Hope you have a great day :)
