scheduled posts not posting at correct time

    Hi, for the last few weeks now I have been scheduling a post to go live at 7pm on a Sunday, however, I have noticed the post does not go live and I have to go back to the scheduled post, re ‘schedule’ it and it then goes live.

    I do save my posts as drafts throughout the making of it, but always make sure to set it to post at certain time, as I get the option to share it with social media if I like. It even appears as a scheduled post in ‘blog posts’ list.
    Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

    Here at WordPress.com I believe scheduled posts don’t necessarily appear at the precise time you set them for. They appear the first time someone visits the site after the scheduled time.

    That would make a little sense in that why it would not post, but is that not a little conter intuitive for those with low traffic? You may schedule a post and it would never go live for weeks/months on some websites. It also wouldn’t explain the fact that scheduled posts would go live as soon as requested around 1 month ago and previous. Also strange is that when you schedule a post in the past (say its 7:30pm, and schedule set for 7:00pm) it posts straight away, but your reply would suggest that as I’m currently “visiting” the site in that respect.

    I think it has something to do with saving as a draft prior to going live, as I have had success with just typing and scheduling the post.

    Hi there,

    It does feel counter-intuitive, and on low-traffic sites that can lead to a delay. But this is how it has always worked, and has to do with how automated actions on a WordPress site gets triggered at the server-level.

    Over time, as your site’s traffic, especially organic traffic from search engines, increase, this will become less noticeable. But in the meantime, simply viewing your site in a incognito browser window should trigger the post.

    Also strange is that when you schedule a post in the past (say its 7:30pm, and schedule set for 7:00pm) it posts straight away

    You can’t schedule a post in the past. You can only backdate it :)
