Scheduling END DATE for posts

Hi (I hope my italian-english is clear enough)
I friend of mine is maintaining a WP blog full of posts about events.
The problem he has is the END DATE for posts.
Events could be 1 or 2 months long or start at the beginning of a month.
He needs to inform readers, publishing posts som weeks in advance and have them still alive until the end of event.
The problem is that they go to archive when the START month is finished… and become no more visible.
Do you know how to solve this?
    thanks
    Davide

I don’t know of any way to set an end date for posts. There are two things your friend could do, though. One is to just delete the posts when he thinks they’ve expired, so he doesn’t have to worry about an end date; at least people wouldn’t keep finding old posts then, if that’s a problem.

He could also use the recent posts widget to keep the latest posts visible in the sidebar, and add a text widget with a list of permanent links to posts he wants people to find. He could name it Important Posts or something like that.

It would be like a linkroll, but just of posts he wants people to see. He’d have to update it manually when he wanted to add new posts or delete old ones, but they’d always be visible in the sidebar for people to find. I think that’d be his best bet.

An example, just to be sure I was clear:
my friend insert today (6th of august) an invitation for an event starting the 15th of september.
The post is somewhere in the main page until the end of August, BUT when september comes the post goes to august archive instead of beeing visible until 15th of semptember.
He would like the post to stay in the main page until 15th (setting an “end date”) and then to go to september archive or august archive.
He has lots of this posts per month (more than 30) … and we are now thinking that maybe WP was not the proper choice, but we’d like to stay with the wonderful WP! :O)

No, that’s not possible. The main page is controlled by the number of entries you set (ex: 8). You can’t make any of them stay until a certain date. WordPress is meant for blogging, so it doesn’t have features like that.

You either need to use an event calendar or a forum. I doubt you’d be able to find any blog software that has “end date” functionality.

    Thanks a lot!
I’ll convice my friend to manage it manually or I’ll try to apply suggestions from “cjwriter”.
Thanks again to both of you!

You’re welcome! You might want to check out some free web-based calendars out there (Google is one such provider) to see if they provide additional functionality. You can include a link to the calendar in your blog.
