Hello!
As a fellow K-12 classroom teacher I can offer you a couple of quick ideas.
1. You can keep the blog private and block students from commenting and changing content by changing the privacy settings to private.
To block students from commenting see here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/
The problem you may run into is that in order for your students to view your private site they must create a WordPress.COM account and you will have to invite them to follow. Which may or may not require much more work on your end.2. Depending on your content it might be easier to just keep it a public site. Alternatively, you can always password protect your content in your posts.
Do you have an idea of the what the purpose of the blog is? Just a communication tool for students or parents? Just for posting lessons and activities on? All of the above? None of the above?
