Schroedinger's Import

Followed the clear and easy instructions, double checked my username and password at lj, and logged out, just to be sure. XML-RPC Request Failed — 101: Invalid password. Huh? Tried a few more times, promptly received an error message/bannination for too many failed logins.
I poked around my adblock and https settings for the heck of it, not because I necessarily know what it’s going to do, if anything to see what other messages I can collect. Now the screen reads: ‘We’re downloading and importing your LiveJournal posts… ‘ with the same failed password message right underneath.
No way, I thought. When I clicked the try again button, it read something like ‘import was interrupted, would you like to continue?’ Again with the same failed password message.
The current screen informs me that my livejournal posts are being downloaded and imported, along with the same message, that the request has failed. I’m going to leave it alone for the night and see what it’s doing in the morning, if anything at all.
Has anyone else had import shenanigans like this with lj? Do we get to legit blame it on the Russians now? Thank you and thank you.

Unfortunately, it seems from previous forum discussions that there is an issue with LiveJournal that is preventing the WordPress import utility from working. Staff are aware of the issue.
The only workaround currently available is the one mentioned by gregstoll in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/import-from-livejournal?replies=52#post-2840166
