Scraper site on WordPress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

    This site, using WordPress.com, is a scraper site. The posts are stolen content:
    http://harrypotterworld.wordpress.com/

    The post this blogger stole from me does link back to my site, but claims that authorship is “by harrypotterworld.”
    http://harrypotterworld.wordpress.com/2007/10/09/the-creative-nerd/

    Mouse over the “more” tag for each post and you’ll see that all of the posts on the blog were similarly scraped from other legitimate blogs. There is no original content on the site.

    Thank you for addressing this problem and putting this word thief out of business – that is what you’ll do, isn’t it? A way for people without wordpress.com blogs to contact you would be a nice addition to your site, too. I had to register here to report this jerk.

    I do not understand this. Without ads why would anyone splog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I can’t report it to the contact support link because I don’t have a wordpress.com blog, as I mentioned above. It would be more efficient to report it directly to WP, but they apparently don’t have a system in place that will allow me to do that. If WP support doesn’t screen the forum, would it be possible for one of the forum members to report this? Not your problem, I know, but I think most legitimate bloggers want want to see sites like this go away.

    atthe404 – not a clue why they would do this, since they can’t use this blog to support advertising. Stone stupid, maybe?

    @skeeterbess
    You have a wordrpess.com username so I can’t feature why the support link won’t work for you. However, do note this part of the tos:

    “If you believe that material located on or linked to by WordPress.com violates your copyright, you are encouraged to notify Automattic in accordance with Automattic’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act (”DMCA”) Policy.”

    Timethief, thanks for your help. I was seeing red and not thinking clearly or I would have investigated your links before posting back to you (pretend their is an embarrassed emoticon here.) I have followed the recommended procedure and filed an infringement notice, so you may consider this matter resolved.

    @skeeterbess
    No problem. What a frustrating position to be in – no wonder you were seeing red. Best wishes to you for a suitable outcome.

    Yikes! Need another red-faced icon inserted. I do know the difference between their and there.

    No to worry. It’s understandable that when we are upset our grammar and spelling becomes scrambled. :)

    Every post on that website has a More tag, and when you click on it you’re directed to an off-WP.com site with advertising. That’s what it’s about.

    I also reported it. It’s driving traffic to that other site and posting anything on the internet it can find using the tag Harry Potter. ToS violation, bigtime.

    It’s also still up, so I wouldn’t consider it resolved until that thing is killed off.

  • Unknown's avatar

    It’s killed off, along with a few others that splogger had.

    Good catch raincoaster and YAY! for Mark. :)
