scratchpad them–want to see comments

  • Unknown's avatar

Love the look of Scratchpad! But I would like to see a “Comments” link on each post as it appears on the homepage, not just when I click on each individual post. Also, I would like to see how many comments have been made on each post on the homepage.

Is there a setting that I’m missing?

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @attentiontolife,

Please perform below checks for the comments.

    – Cross check setting mentioned for comments in this document for your site –
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/comment-display-options/#comment-pages

    – Edit the Homepage and check if the “Allow Comments” is checked under the “Discussion” tab on the right side Document settings.

Let us know how it goes.
    Thank you!

    Hi!

Thank you for replying. I checked and the “Allow Comments” is checking under the “Discussion” tab.

And looking at the settings on the Comment options you pointed to, it appears that they should be showing up.

Is there anything else you can suggest? I hate to have to change themes but I want to have comments as an option.

    Thanks again!

Hi there, is a specific post or page where you do not see the comments box appearing? If so, please give us a direct link to it.

For example, on this post attentiontolife.com/2019/03/25/synchronicities/ if you scroll down a little you’ll see the “Leave a Reply” box in a lovely frame like an airmail snail mail envelope.

    Hi!

Yep, looking at the home page, https://attentiontolife.com/, you don’t see the option on any of the posts to make a comment nor do you see that comments have been made. To get to the comment “envelope” (and it is cute!), you have to click to the individual post and then know to scroll down to find the comment box. You also have to scroll down a bit to see the comments that are already there. (I just put a comment on this post as a test, https://attentiontolife.com/2019/03/25/2596/ )

Interestingly, I just found out that you can’t get to the individual post if there is no Title. And I have many posts without Titles.

    Thanks for helping.

Hello again, the vast majority of themes (*one* exception) on WordPressdotcom do not display the comment box on the front/home page of your site. You have to click through to the single post view to get there.

You can always get to the individual post by clicking on the post date.

Additionally, the Aside format behaves a little differently in the greater scheme of bloggy things. It’s really meant for a short “aside” rather than a full blog post, although the Status post format also is intended to be something short.

If you don’t give your post a title, the post number will be the default “title” in the link, and that can look quite odd if you are publicizing your posts to social media.

Sorry for the brevity. I’ll try to post again a bit later.

    Hello,

Thanks for the info. I took a look at a number of themes and it seems that some offer the comment option and comment count on the homepage and some don’t. I guess not having that on the homepage is a feature of the theme. Too bad. I’ll just choose another though I really like Scratchpad.

And thanks for the tip on the post titles; I went back and added them including changing the slug.

I’m always learning new things thanks to help from folks like you!! :)
