Scratchpad theme: Why so hard to find Comments?

  • Unknown's avatar

The theme Scratchpad has all I wish for, except a decent way to view and make comments! I just had 8 comments on my last post, but I can’t see them anywhere, and I don’t think that I nor my readers should be forced to click 10 times to see comments or where to leave a comment. Saw another thread about this, but it was closed. Please make an adjustment to this otherwise brilliantly designed theme. (I’ve now changed back to On a Whim, another “retro” theme, also lacking in some ways, but without this major flaw.)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I believe you are talking about this WordPress.com site. https://tassenupp.com/

I had a look at two of your blog posts – one and two – the comments box appears just about right. It appears right below the content, which is ideal.

Can you share links of the actual page where you feel the comments section is affected?

Scratchpad is one of those themes where visitors only see the comments area when they click on a post title.

Thank you so much for your replies, @themagicrobot and @strikebuys. :-)

That’s right, I’ve since changed back to my old theme.

I really tried to see the comments by clicking on post titles and so on, and I failed to see them. Hm, I guess this is just a feature of this theme. A strange feature, I find, as I know the Comment Section can be placed almost anywhere on different themes, but I’ve always been able to figure it out pretty fast.

Ouch, I really like Scratchpad, but this feature bugs me so much I hesitate to use the theme.

I hope Scratchpad makes an update where the Comment section is more available for readers.

Thanks again for trying to help me! :-)

  • Hi there – thanks for the feedback on Scratchpad. I’m going to see what we can do here. While I can’t give you an ETA, I will keep you posted if we’re able to modify this.

    Thank you @kathrynwp :-)

I love Scratchpad, and I’m so sad that this theme lacks this instant communication with my readers: They read a post and think “I’d like to comment this, but where?!”.

There are so few “retro” designs out there, and I really think I’m not alone in seeking them now, so…

I really hope Scratchpad gets updated to web life of 2017/2018, without losing that lovely, personal and distinct design.

I hope my wish comes true, as both readers and bloggers are used to being able to interact right away nowadays, (thank you WordPress and Facebook) – a positive note to take into account.

Thanks for getting back to me! :-)
