Screen lagging behind typing on wp-admin HTML editor

    I’m using WordPress.com on Linux Mint 17.2, with Firefox 53.0 64-bit. Recently, I’ve noticed that it takes several seconds between the time I press a key and the time the character shows up on the screen when I use the old HTML editor. It doesn’t happen when I use the old WYSIWYG editor or the new HTML editor or WYSIWYG editor. I prefer the older HTML editor, because I know where everything is and frankly, the new one looks funny and is distracting. What might be causing this to happen? Is this some nefarious plot to get rid of the old HTML editor, or is this something for which there’s a solution?
