Screen Options: Changing Number of items per page
-
is not saving/updating after hitting the Apply button.
It reverts to the default number, or the number you set previously, regardless of what page you are on in the WP Admin Classic Dashboard. I’ve tested this so far on 3 of my sites.

Interesting.
I am able to change the number of items on Posts and Pages screens in WP-Admin without any problem.

Hi @justjennifer — this could also be related to the bugs in the latest Chrome release. Do you want to try these steps to see if they have an impact?

@supernovia-thanks for the pointer. :)
Since this is a dashboard screen that I normally don’t deal with on a day-to-day basis (of course I picked the Blue Moon scenario) I’ll be patient until the googliness settles down or switch to FF if I need to change it.
-
And it seems that it’s not just the Screen Options that isn’t updating, it’s also changes that I make at the back end (like attaching an image to a post) within the Dashboard as well. The page refreshes but without reflecting the change.
Now I don’t wonder if this earlier post isn’t part of the same problem. The OP there was running Chrome 44 https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/about-me-is-not-saving-changes?replies=11

I’m having the same phenomenon in FF40 where the page isn’t refreshing to reflect changes made (dashboard mostly). Unfortunately, I don’t have any more time to devote to this right now.
-
@justjennifer, I haven’t been able to duplicate this yet. Can you tell me which page you’re changing the number of screen option on?
-
Hi @supernovia- Mostly the Posts or Media dashboards in the WP Classic Admin.
I tested just now in gammagirl’s Post’s dashboard and the starting number in the “number of items per page” is 20 and there are 9 pages in the dashboard.
Then I used the arrows to increase the number of items per page to 30, clicked Apply and the screen options closed, but no change in the number of pages in the dashboard.
Upon opening the Screen Options tab again, the number that appears in the box is 20.
Again, Chrome Version 45.0.2454.85 m on Win7Pro
Thanks for looking.

10 minutes later and the changes to Screen Options have caught up.
Once page refreshing used to be instantaneous so I’m not sure what’s going on, and so I’m not certain now whether it’s an issue on my side or WPcom’s side. It doesn’t seem to be an issue elsewhere on the web. I also clear my browser cache daily.

I was able to install that same version on Windows 7 (though I don’t have a VM for Windows 7 Pro.) I can’t seem to duplicate this still :/
If you type the number instead of using the arrows, does that change anything?
-
I think I duplicated this issue as can be seen in this screencast: https://cloudup.com/cGCL5tSj6PF
I changed the Number of items per page from 10 to 5 and applied the change. But the change doesn’t stick.
10 minutes later and the changes to Screen Options have caught up.
This observation by @justjennifer seems to be true. I can’t say it is 10 minutes but my yesterday’s change seemed to caught up when I checked today.
Interestingly, I could not duplicate this problem in Firefox when I tried it very first time soon after @justjennifer reported this anomaly.
-
The first time I encountered this problem was after I’d typed a number in the box. Tried it again earlier today with the same results. There is a significant delay until the dashboard catches up with the change.
staff-happychia thanks for confirming this is happening in FF too.
-
staff-happychia what operating system do you use?
Also, would either of you be willing to see if there are any console errors? If you’ll go to Help and look for “Console” you should be able to find the option in your menu.
-
I am on the latest Mac OS X, Yosemite version 10.10.5.
I can’t see any console errors: https://cloudup.com/cbrFIARikZJ
-
The updated Number of items per page value caught up overnight.
Last night I set it to 15 which is what I found this morning to start with , as you can see in the screencast.
-
Same as chaitanyamsv-no console errors (which for me was under developer tools on Chrome 45) in the Posts Dashboard after changing the number of items in the screen options tab and applying the change.
As I mentioned above, I’m having other dashboard update slowness. On agallerydemo, in the Media Library I attached about 15+ unattached images to a new page – Screenshots. After having done so, I sorted the Media Library again for unattached images and while the drop down image sort menu (All/Unattached) showed (3) unattached images, the thumbnails of the newly attached images still showed in the image list. More annoying is that the Post Editor’s Add Media/Media Manager image thumbnails didn’t reflect the change either at first. Here, too, there was significant lag.
-
Okay, I do see this now :) It looks like the number is updating when the blog’s cache is cleared, which is why it works after so many hours, and likely why I wasn’t able to duplicate it earlier.
I’ll write up a report. Can you let me know often this affects you? I’ll include that note as well.
