Screwed up my WordPress.com account

    Hello,

I recently created a new WordPress.com blog (crossingincupcakia.wordpress.com) under my usual WordPress.com username which was sweet2eatbaking.

On the new blog I added my blog roll links which I added in manually, but I selected the blogroll widget that shows the images. I like this widget however, I didn’t realise it would show the links of the blogs I’m following under my main account. Therefore I also added the list style blogroll widget. I prefer the one with images.

Therefore, in the dashboard, I went to change my username from sweet2eatbaking to crossingincupcakia as I thought this would create a new username so I could follow the blogs that were in my custom blogroll list and have them show as images. But I was wrong, it had changed my main username account from ‘sweet2eatbaking’ to ‘crossingincupcakia’. This is not what I wanted so I attempted to change it back and it’s stating that ‘sweet2eatbaking’ already exists? Surely it can’t since I changed the username. So, for now, I have temporarily changed it to ‘sweet2eatbakingblog’. Is it possible that you could revert this username back to ‘sweet2eatbaking’ for me at all?

Also, since my main account shows all the blogs I’m following, which are all sweet baking and dessert blogs, I don’t want this to show on crossingincupcakia.wordpress.com. Ideally I’d like to create a new WordPress.com username then follow the blogs and websites I’d like to add to the image styled blogroll, and transfer crossingincupcakia.wordpress.com to the new ‘crossingincupcakia’ WordPress.com account as I’d like to keep my baking follows separate to my gaming follows. Does that make sense?

Is this at all possible? And I’m so very sorry for the extra hassle this causes you, but I feel as though I’ve screwed up my account now, and now lost my most preferred username since it wasn’t clear that I was changing my entire WordPress.com username. I thought it was just for that blog.

Either way I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Regards,
    Lisa.

WordPress policy would indicate that your old username is unrecoverable:
    support.wordpress.com/change-your-username
I’ll tag this post to see if maybe someone can help you out in getting it back.
Your plan (sans old username) looks good other than that.

    Thanks Jeff.

Hopefully a staff member will be able to help me out.

    Hi Lisa,

When you change the username on your WordPress.com account, the old username is deleted and can’t ever be used again (by you or anyone else). If you would like to have a different username for one of your blogs, you can create a new WordPress.com account and transfer your blog to that account.

To sign up for a new account with a new username, log out of your WordPress.com account and go to this link:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

Once the new account is created, you can follow this guide to transfer a blog to the new account: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

Thanks Rachel, but that sucks since both my old username and the one I wanted to transfer my new blog to have now both gone. Le sigh.

I guess I’ll just have to add ‘blog’ to the end of the new WordPress username and use that.

One thing though. When trying to sign up, it always keeps asking me what blog address I want. I don’t want to create another blog, just a WP account then transfer the old blog to that new account.

Anyway around this? Or do I have to set up a temp blog, delete it then do the transfer?

    Thanks for your help.

Nevermind, I found where to create a username without a blog and have already created my new username.

Thanks again for all your help. You’ve been very helpful.

You’re welcome. I’m sorry I couldn’t recover the deleted usernames for you. In case someone else is looking for how to sign up with just a username (and no blog), you can go directly to this link:
