I’m not sure if this is related to your issue or not. Staff have introduced “infinite scroll” to some themes including MistyLook and will be implementing it on all themes that have a suitable structure for infinite scroll. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/to-infinity?replies=137
Thos who have themes with footer widgets can use a workaround to regain control over how many posts are displayed on the front page of the blog. They simply install an empty text widget into any footer widget area and the number of posts they set to display on the main page for posts in their blog here Settings > Reading will prevail after they have done that.
If you have a theme like MistyLook without footer widgets then you can switch to a theme with footer widgets, so then you will be able to drop an empty text widget into a single footer widget area. Then you can regain control of how many posts display on the front page of the blog and the number you enter on Settings > Reading page will prevail.
For some other theme possibilities see here > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/of-posts-displayed-on-front-page?replies=21#post-842402
