SeaMonkey Browser

Upon browser launch, WordPress put up an erroneous message that I am using an outdated version of Firefox. False.

I am using the current version of the SeaMonkey browser which also comes out of Mozilla, but has been “set free” to the SeaMonkey Council. SeaMonkey browser ver 2.48 is totally current and up to date.

WordPress should not be telling people what browser to use, as long as the browsers work.

For my blog, SeaMonkey does a better job than Firefox or Chrome.

  • Hi there,

The latest version of SeaMonkey (2.48) is based on the Firefox version 51. The most recent version of Firefox is 56. This is the reason why you get this error message.
WordPress.com uses the latest web technologies and an up-to-date browser is needed for full compatibility.

    Thanks for your reply.

Here is the thing, and I had this same problem with my cable company. There are many browsers in use besides Firefox, Chrome, IE, Safari. WordPress should not be trying to tell people what browser to use. I got my cable company to take down the message.

I wish WordPress would get rid of the message.

    Thanks again.

BTW, I run a blog, http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com. I use a lot of graphics. I have tried all of the above mentioned browsers. None are as easy for me to use as SeaMonkey. That is why I use it.

  • Hi there,

We’re not trying to force people to use the major browsers. As I already told you, SeaMonkey is based on an older version of Firefox and that’s why you’re getting this error message. Most websites recognize SeaMonkey as Firefox and that’s why they share a common codebase.

BTW, I run a blog, http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com. I use a lot of graphics. I have tried all of the above mentioned browsers. None are as easy for me to use as SeaMonkey. That is why I use it.

I loaded your site on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari and all of them loaded it quickly and without errors. Have you tried a different computer? This may be the cause and not the browsers themselves.

Yes on trying other browsers. Chrome and Firefox are very usable for me, just nor as usable as SeaMonkey.

Thanks for your help and your interest.

I missed your question about different computers. They all function the same way.
