Search All Sites – 0 Results
-
When I use the bar at the top of the page to search “All Sites” for generic search terms, nine out of ten times I get zero results. “0 results for travel (0.03 seconds)”? “0 results for vegetarian (0.76 seconds)”? “0 results for recipe (0.04 seconds)”? “0 results for puppy (0.21 seconds)”? Really? I find it hard to believe nobody has written about their holiday, their pet or their food! This has been going on since I joined WP a few weeks ago, and it absolutely must be fixed immediately! It is such a disservice to authors and readers alike!

The search there is a bit buggy.
Try global tags instead:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/You use desert in a tag on one of your posts, so other blogs with that tag:
http://en.wordpress.com/tag/dessert/
Breakfast:
http://en.wordpress.com/tag/breakfast/
and here are wp.com blogs about “puppy”
http://en.wordpress.com/tag/puppy/ -
It’s important that you verify ownership of your blog with the major search engines and know it may take 4 – 6 weeks before indexing of your posts appears in search results. http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
This post contains 10 factors that may expedite the indexing process > http://www.onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/Re: searching. Have you read these entries?

I’m not sure timethief even read my question- it has nothing to do with Google or other external search engines. But thanks 1tess- that’s a decent start but WordPress definitely shouldn’t have a feature at the top of every blog if that feature isn’t going to work properly!

@thewhiteplates
I read your question and as I knew Tess was on the board and would provide what she did I provided additional information. If you believe the WordPress.com search feature is not working the way the support documentation states it works here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/ you can report this ti Staff when they reactivate the support link at 8AM UTC on Monday 20th June. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Best wishes with your blogging. -
Your blog is very new. The advice from timethief is really something you should take a close look at in terms of your future search engine energy.
Global tags on wp.com go quite a far way toward making your blog accessible (well findable) by both other wp.com bloggers and by Google, Yahoo, Bing, and so on…
Global tags are also the way for you to find bloggers with interests similar to your own.
The search at the top of these pages on wp is not the best, but their global tags rock.
(also, i have had good luck looking for things on my own site if not on others…)We volunteers really do try our best to answer questions from other users. Sometimes we provide more info than the original poster asks about. Sometimes we make mistakes, (though info in this thread is all accurate). We do want you to feel comfortable to come here for advice.
Happy blogging!

I am having the same issue as the original poster – I get 0 results returned 9 times out of 10 for very common terms, however repeated clicking of the ‘search’ button usually throws up thousands of results after a few tries, however, when I click the numbers at the bottom to advance to page 2, they all disappear again! This is very frustrating!

I’m having this issue too. It’s awful.
I’m not searching for my own blog.
I’m not trying to gain better visibility for my blog in any searches.
I just want to browse other WP blogs using something more specific than Readomattic.WP search should be the best way to do that.
It’d be great to type in a topic, hit enter, and get results. I did try Tess’s Google search tip and it appears to be a good temporary fix. -
Ummm … Google search a temporary fix? I wonder how Matt Cutts would respond to that. Google is in the search business and I doubt very much that the search utility here will ever rival Google’s search capabilities. But I hasten to add that doesn’t mean that you ought not request improvement. Please do that when Staff reactivate the support link form 12PM UTC on Monday 27th June.
