Can the comment box be moved using the free plan or does that depend on the theme?

Can the comment box text on the free plan be changed to something different that what is automatically put there or does that depend on the theme? If the text can be change please explain how to do so.

Thanks for telling me about not needing to add the comment box in each post.

Thanks for all the other help.

  • Hi there,

Because you are using a full site editing theme, you do have the option to make changes to your comments. We may need a bit of clarification though before we understand how to advise you

Can the comment box be moved using the free plan or does that depend on the theme?

It can, but where it can be moved may be limited by your theme. Can you tell us more about where you are trying to move them to?

Yes you can edit some details about the comments area here in your “Single Post” template: https://brainbombsandchronicpain.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postType=wp_template&postId=pub%2Ftwentytwentytwo%2F%2Fsingle

This is the template that determines the look of your individual blog posts. If you scroll down you can see that it has a block that is controlling the comments. When @fstat was clarifying that “the comment box gets added automatically at the end of each post” this is the template that is adding that.

You will see it’s using an older version of the comments block, but if you click this button it will convert to one that you can edit, and will allow you to change some of the text and other details shown in the comments section.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

After I press the switch to editable mode instead of saying leave a comment in the comment box I would like the words to be share your thoughts in the brainbox below Would I be able to do that and if so please explain how? I did not see a way to change the text after pressing the edit button.

I would like the comment box to show before the email block. I would like to be able to move the email block to the side of the posts or pages. Is that a widget that allows that to happen? Would I be able to add a row or column to be able to do so? Please explain how if I am able to do that.
I know the twenty twenty two theme does not have widgets.

    Thanks

  • Hello there,

It’s currently not possible to edit the text seen in this comments form.

I would like the comment box to show before the email block. I would like to be able to move the email block to the side of the posts or pages.

When you mention email block, to check, are you referring to the “Leave a comment” form?

When you mention email block, to check, are you referring to the “Leave a comment” form?

I am referring to the email block that allows users to sign up for an email when new posts are published. I may have used the wrong block name.

It’s currently not possible to edit the text seen in this comments form.

It seems that I was able to edit the text when I was using the Independent Publisher theme since some of my comment boxes do have different text than the leave a comment text. Is that no longer possible to change the text using any theme?

If it is not possible to edit the text for the comment box I would like to suggest that text can be edited for the comment box to whoever needs to know that suggestion.

What can be changed after pressing the edit mode button?

The follow on feedly button that I have I got from feedly.com is there a way to move it to the same place the other social icons buttons are? If so please explain how to do so. If not please suggest how to move it somewhere else so it does not look like it is hanging there. What does using the link option for social media icons look like?

    Thanks

  • I am referring to the email block that allows users to sign up for an email when new posts are published. I may have used the wrong block name.

That block can’t be moved to the side as the theme you’ve selected doesn’t have a sidebar.

I am referring to the email block that allows users to sign up for an email when new posts are published. I may have used the wrong block name.

This was possible on older themes like Independent Publisher, where the theme controlled the comment box’s layout. Now, with the newer block-based themes, the comment block can be edited through the Site Editor.

What can be changed after pressing the edit mode button?

On the Comments block, you can change the colors (foreground and background) and the text size.

You can move it to the same are as the other social media icons, but it won’t be in-line with those icons.

To do that, edit the Footer template and add the Feedly icon as an Image block.

I have uploaded the feedly image on the footer and also added the html block that is where the feedly button is shown. How do I put the feedly button under the other social media icons and make it a link like it is on current pages and posts?

When I tried to drag the feedly image over so it showed under the social media icons it kept going back to where it is in the screenshot. Please tell me what I did wrong.

    Thanks

  • Hello there,

How do I put the feedly button under the other social media icons

I’d recommend opening up list view and moving the item from one column to another as seen here:

make it a link like it is on current pages and posts

Please see how to do this here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/#link-settings

I have the which part of the link to use figured out.

The feedly button does not show on the footer on the main page of my site. It shows on the footer in the posts. What do I need to do to have the feedly button show on the footer on the main page?

    Thanks

It looks like the footer needs to be added to the template in the site editor.

This is how this could be done:

I adjust the social media icons in the footer with a spacer and a width of 15px but when I look on the website the social icons are still not all on the same row. I would like to have the all social icons on the same row except for the feedly icon. What should I adjust to have all the icons on the same row expect the feedly icon?

Will you please look to see what I did wrong and how to fix it if I made a mistake?

Do I have more than one footer on my site and am I maybe making adjustments to the wrong footer if I have more than one? If I have more than one footer do I need all of them or which ones can I delete?

    Thanks

  • I checked your site’s footer and see that all your social media icons are on the same row. Here’s how it looks on my end:

Yes the image @fstat shared is what the footer looks like in the editor but when I visit my site the goodreads icon show under the three other icons above the feedly icon. In other words the footer in the editor and the website are not showing the same thing.

This is what I see when I visit my site in the footer

I also have more than one header would you please explain why and tell me if I need to save all of them or if I can delete the ones that are not shown on my website.

    Thanks

This is expected when viewing your site on smaller screens or narrower browser windows. It’s called responsive design, and it makes the contents of websites to adapt to the screen’s size.

I understand what you are saying. I am wondering why the footer in posts and pages show the social media icons in a row. Is that because their is not as much information on the post and pages as on the homepage? Trying to understand.

I also have more than one header would you please explain why and tell me if I need to save all of them or if I can delete the ones that are not shown on my website.

    will someone please answer this

    Thanks

  • Hello there,

I am wondering why the footer in posts and pages show the social media icons in a row. Is that because their is not as much information on the post and pages as on the homepage?

Ultimately this is because the orientation of the Social Icons block is set to show horizontally.

I also have more than one header would you please explain why and tell me if I need to save all of them or if I can delete the ones that are not shown on my website.

You could delete these if you wish, and just use the header the you require for the templates if you wish.

I can imagine deleting anything redundant will help to keep things concise.

    I hope this helps.
