‘Search’ button not changing colour despite changing the settings.

I’ve used the new styles system to change the colours for my website but the ‘buttons’ section won’t save and isn’t letting me change the colour of my search bar button. Is there a work-around for this?

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

What is the colour you’re looking to change to? We can look to try and replicate the behaviour you’re facing.

Hello. I was looking to change my button to the colour #7030a0 and make the writing on it white. I’ve found a way around the problem now so the issue is solved in that sense, but the styles function still doesn’t work with the issue described. Thank you.

Can you give us more details about what you’re trying to change in the styles and where? Once we have that information we’ll be able to take a closer look and try and replicate the problem.

    Thanks!

I was using the editor feature, found in the appearance section, and I then clicked the styles icon in the top right of the screen. I was looking to change the colour for all buttons on my site, but the colours I had chosen, #7030a0 (for the button colour) and white (for the text colour) removed themselves whenever I saved the changes. They reverted to the default colours which I think was blue and something else. I couldn’t manually change the button colour either, same thing happened. I managed to find a workaround somehow and it’s okay now. Original problem still exists though. I’m using the Appleton theme, not sure if that affects anything. Hopefully that’s enough information.

  • Hello there,

Thank you for that explanation of events there – it does sound like there could be a bug happening here.

Can you tell me what workaround you’re doing please?

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I apologise for the delay in responding – I’ve been busy with a project surrounding my website.

I can’t remember exactly what I did, but I know I used the ‘list view’ function in the top left of the editor page. Then I think I found the search bar in the header section and clicked more settings. Then manually updated the colours from there.

Again, unsure if this was exactly how I did it but it’s definitely along the right lines. Hopefully this helps you out.

  • Hello there,

    Thanks for that information there.

It looks like you’ve changed the button colour of the search block there using the block options, which is just another way of doing that – rather than a workaround.

I took a look at your styles and I can see the button option is still blue, which would make sense with what you’re describing, but this is overwritten when the block options are changed individually.

    I hope this helps.
