search button or icon

how do i add a search button or icon? I would like people to be able to search ‘bread’ and have all posts related to bread (with ‘bread’ tagged?) to come up – how do I do this? The demo doesn’t seem to have a search feature either.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can implement a search widget using the guide listed on this official article: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/search-widget/
You can also provoke the search pop-up by entering your URL with an unused slug to bring up a “Page not Found” screen. For example: https://francescaalbertazzi.wordpress.com/search
Bare in mind this would bring up all the results with the word “bread” (assuming you searched bread).
Alternatively, if you’d like people to be able to view all the posts tagged with the tag “bread”, you can direct them to this link: https://francescaalbertazzi.wordpress.com/tag/bread
You’ll need to set up the tags for all the posts that you want to appear though. You can learn how to do that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/tags/
Hope this helps, and let me know if you need anymore help!

Note that the search URL for bread would be this: https://francescaalbertazzi.wordpress.com/?s=bread

Hi there,
There’s a search box already on your site’s sidebar that you and your visitors can use to search within the site.
Are you able to see it?

Hi – no, I do not see any search button on a side bar at all ! I don’t actually see a side bar… hmm… maybe I don’t see exactly what someone sees – ? I also see the +write icon and my profile icon and the little bell, which, I would think, people not allowed to edit the site would not see?
#luddite !

ok – found it :) At the foot of the page, that’s where the search is – I was hoping for a search window at the top right of the home page… but it’s a free site so beggars can’t be choosers ! thank you for your help.

Hi there,
Whether you see it to the side or at the bottom will depend on the size of the screen you’re viewing the site on. On my desktop monitor I see the widget added to the right of the content. But on a narrower screen the widget area automatically moves to below the content, as your theme automatically adjusts the layout to make the site easier to read on smaller mobile and tablet screens.
It’s not possible to add a search option to the admin bar right at the top, though. You won’t even be able to do that on a paid plan – technically the admin bar is part of the WordPress.com interface, not part of your site.
